Description
Ryūji Toramaru emerges as a prominent first-year student at Otokojuku, joining Momotaro Tsurugi's team with J and Genji during the school's trials. His introduction follows a period of isolation under special punishment, where he displayed exceptional physical strength by single-handedly holding aloft a massive stone ceiling for an extended duration.

Standing 180 cm (5'11") tall and weighing 95 kg (209 lbs), Toramaru possesses a muscular build. His appearance features jet-black unruly hair, often tied in a mullet or ponytail, facial stubble, and brown eyes. He typically wears the standard Otokojuku uniform but frequently fights bare-chested or in a loincloth. Later life depictions in spin-offs "Sora Yori Takaku" and "Akatsuki!! Otokojuku" show him as a successful finance CEO in formal business attire, though he reverts to traditional dress during reunions with former classmates.

His personality blends carefree boldness with crude humor. Early rebellious actions, like farting in an instructor's face, resulted in severe punishment. Post-confinement, he exhibits deep loyalty, endurance, and camaraderie, particularly toward Momotaro's team. He evolves into a primary source of comic relief, employing absurd tactics such as fart-based attacks in battle while maintaining genuine concern for allies. His self-dubbed "Fierce Tiger Style" (猛虎流, Moukouryuu) combat emphasizes brute force, improvisation, and sumo wrestling techniques, reflecting his background as a hometown yokozuna.

Key techniques include the "Great Fart Cannon" (大放屁, Daihouhi) for evasion or humiliation via high-velocity flatulence, and variations like the ignited "Great Fart Cannon Flamethrower" (大放屁火炎放射, Daihouhi Kaenhousha). He utilizes combination moves with allies, such as the "Great Fart Cannon Human Wheel" (大放屁人間車輪, Daihouhi Ningen Sharin) with Togashi Genji and the slingshot-style "Boar Leaping Jumping Body Cannon" (豭門跳體砲, Kamon Choutaihou). Other abilities encompass the non-combat knockout "Brain Stem Disruption Strike" (延髄破暢掌, Enzui Hachoushou) and the "Double Whirlwind Kick" (二段旋風脚, Nidan Senpukyaku), though he struggles with its landing.

His background reveals he is the son of Toramaru Ryuta, an ally of Otokojuku founder Edajima Heihachi during their military service. This connection is explored in the prequel "Tenkamusou Edajima Heihachi Den," where Ryuta endures a similar ceiling-holding punishment. The sequel "Akatsuki!! Otokojuku" confirms Ryūji has a daughter, Toramaru Ryuko, indicating his familial life post-graduation.

Major engagements across official media include:
- The Four Great Trials of Terror (驚邏大四凶殺), battling Gekkou in the "Blazing Ice Slab Gateway" (氷盆炎悶関, Hyoubon Enmonkan).
- The Great Pa-Lien Quaking Conquest (大威震八連制覇, Dai Ishin Pa-Lien Seiha).
- The Heaven-Challenging Olympics Great Tournament (天挑五輪大武會, Tenchou Gorin Dai Bukai).
- The Battle of the Seven Tusks (七牙冥界闘, Batoru Obu Sebun Tasukusu) to rescue Edajima.
- The Wind and Clouds Arhat Private School (風雲羅漢塾, Fu'un Rakanjuku) arc against Edajima's rival Kumada.

In the live-action film "Be a Man!! Samurai School," his role differs slightly: he appears earlier, avoids frequent clothing removal, and identifies as Christian during a confrontation where Gekkou carves him a tombstone. Video game adaptations, such as the PS2 title "Sakigake!! Otokojuku," feature him as a playable character utilizing his signature fart-based techniques.
