Description
Rennyo stands as a revered holy priest, centrally conveying Buddhist teachings inherited from the sage Shinran. His preachings confront the existential question "Why do we live?", delivering spiritual answers that grant meaning and direction to those engulfed in despair.

He holds the position of head priest at Kyoto's Honganji temple, where his expanding influence and growing congregation provoke intense hostility from established Buddhist sects. Escalating opposition compels Rennyo and his apprentice Ryouken to flee Kyoto, safeguarding their lives to continue their religious mission.

Following exile, Rennyo leads the establishment of a new sanctuary for worship and teaching. This journey brings them to Yoshizaki in Hokuriku (present-day Fukui Prefecture). Amid external challenges, Rennyo persists in spreading Shinran's teachings, offering solace and purpose to adherents.

Functioning as a spiritual guide and mentor, Rennyo demonstrates the transformative power of Buddhist principles through interactions, particularly with Ryouken—a disillusioned youth reshaped into a devoted follower by Rennyo's wisdom.
