Description
Dr. Susan Rand is a doctor at the Federation for Extraterrestrial Research (FER) Cosmic Biology Research Institute. A university graduate by 18 holding multiple doctorates, including medicine, she researches extraterrestrial biology and exploration. Susan exhibits a rigorous, persevering personality with consistent passion for science. Her serious research attitude grants her high confidence and a strong stance against interference. She initially reacts with anger to Scott Masterson's frivolous behavior after the Ultra Force interferes with human research on extraterrestrial life, confronting him and his team harshly following their battle with Garuballade.
Susan resolves her misunderstanding with Scott during a park conversation. Asked about potential alien attacks on Earth, she states she is "not interested in contacting extraterrestrial life," causing Scott to hesitate about revealing his Ultraman identity. She demonstrates compassion for non-threatening extraterrestrials, risking her safety to advocate for the peaceful monster Zoon in Utah and requesting the National Guard cease attacks. Ultraman Chuck ultimately relocates Zoon to another planet per her request.
Leading the study of the creature Wylon discovered in the New Mexico desert, Susan protects it due to its resemblance to a pink bunny. After Wylon rapidly grows into the destructive King Myra, destroying institute buildings, she feels guilt over her naivety regarding its true nature and the resulting damage. Observing the crowd during King Myra's New York rampage, she discovers the Ultra Force members' identities as Ultraman warriors.
To assist the Ultra Force against King Myra, Susan boards their Mothership and operates a "neural disruptor" device capable of neutralizing biological bioelectric waves to paralyze organisms. This intervention supports the three Ultra Warriors in throwing King Myra into the sun.
Susan gradually develops romantic feelings for Scott, attracted to his outgoing personality. After learning his identity, she actively assists the Ultra Force, deepening their relationship. Scott temporarily avoids pursuing the relationship due to his fusion with Ultraman, but after the Ultra Force gains permission to remain on Earth, he reunites with Susan at the rebuilding research facility where they officially begin dating.
Her role evolves from initial Ultra Force skepticism to becoming an essential ally. She bridges the perspectives of human researchers studying extraterrestrial life and the Ultra Force's mission to protect Earth from destructive alien threats.
