Adi received genetic modification from Hydra under their Emerald Rain Project, gaining technopathic abilities called the "Technical Act." This power enables thought-based manipulation and control of all technology, even sophisticated systems such as the Hulkbuster armor. Indoctrinated to view Hydra as heroic and the Avengers as villains, he carried out missions until discovering Hydra's deception. He defected with Makoto and Chloe, though an initial escape attempt resulted in capture before Avengers intervention freed him.
Tormented by guilt over his Hydra-era actions, he wrestled with self-doubt about his heroic potential. Encounters with figures like Tony Stark—whose weapons-design past reflected Adi’s remorse—intensified this inner conflict. Stark’s rejection of past-defining failures became pivotal, solidifying Adi’s redemptive journey.
Operating as Codec within the Future Avengers, he functioned as the team’s tactical and intellectual core. His maturity and technical acumen frequently counterbalanced Makoto’s impulsiveness. He exhibited protective instincts toward Makoto and Chloe, the latter relationship characterized as sibling-like.
During Season 2, he persisted in Avengers missions, combating threats including the Inventor’s pet-weaponization scheme and societal chaos from Terrigen Mist exposure. He engaged in preventing human-Inhuman war, confronting adversaries like Blizzard and the Super-Adaptoid. His technopathy proved indispensable for disrupting enemy tech and orchestrating team maneuvers.
Supplemental narratives in *Marvel Future Fight Firsts* portrayed an alternate origin within Marvel 616. Subsequent appearance in *War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #3* established his integration into wider Marvel Comics continuity.
