Movie
Description
Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, often called Luna, is a former princess of Tenebrae and the youngest Oracle in the history of the world of Eos. As the Oracle, she possesses the ability to commune with the divine beings known as the Astrals, and she wields the Trident of the Oracle, a sacred weapon passed down through her bloodline. She also has the power to heal those afflicted by the Starscourge, a plague that threatens the land.
Born into the Fleuret family, Lunafreya spent her childhood in the kingdom of Tenebrae, which was later conquered by the Niflheim Empire. After the invasion, she became a captive of the empire, though she retained a degree of freedom as a political asset. Her younger brother, Ravus Nox Fleuret, serves in the Niflheim military, creating a strained relationship between them; Lunafreya disagrees with his loyalty to the empire and his hatred of King Regis of Lucis.
Lunafreya is a woman of strong will and deep sense of duty. From a young age, she accepted the responsibilities of her role as Oracle, placing her in direct contrast with Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum, who initially resists his own destiny. She is kind-hearted and selfless, always prioritizing the well-being of others over her own safety. Her expressions are often serious and slightly melancholic, reflecting the weight of her purpose. She is also a skilled diplomat, capable of navigating complex political situations with grace and resolve.
In the story of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Lunafreya is a central figure. The film depicts the events leading up to the peace treaty between Lucis and Niflheim, which is sealed by her arranged marriage to Noctis. She is initially confined to Tenebrae under Niflheim's watch, but after a failed escape attempt orchestrated by King Regis's agent Crowe Altius, she is brought to the Lucian capital of Insomnia. There, she meets with King Regis and insists that her duty is to protect Noctis and see his destiny fulfilled, even if it means placing herself in danger. She refuses Regis's offer to send her away, stating that wherever she goes, the empire will follow.
Lunafreya's key relationship in the film is with Noctis, though they do not meet onscreen. She has fond childhood memories of him and prays for his safety. She also interacts with Nyx Ulric, a member of the Kingsglaive, and shows compassion for the fallen agent Crowe. Her conversations with her brother Ravus reveal her belief that Niflheim, not King Regis, is responsible for their mother's death.
Throughout Kingsglaive, Lunafreya's motivations are rooted in her duty as Oracle: she believes her purpose is to aid Noctis in becoming the True King and to banish the darkness from the world. She is prepared to accept whatever fate may come, viewing her duty and destiny as one and the same. Her actions are central to the empire's infiltration of Insomnia, as she becomes a pawn in their scheme, but she also works to undermine their plans within her limited capacity.
Notable abilities include her communication with the Astrals, which she uses to request their blessings for Noctis. She wields the Trident of the Oracle in combat and possesses protective magic. Her healing powers are tied to her role as Oracle, allowing her to cure the Starscourge. She is also a skilled strategist and orator, capable of inspiring hope in others through her speeches.
Lunafreya's character development in the film emphasizes her unwavering resolve and the personal cost of her dedication. She remains determined despite being a captive, and her strength is shown through her ability to maintain grace and composure in dire circumstances.
