Description
Libertus Ostium hails from Galahd, a remote village where he formed an unbreakable bond with Nyx Ulric through reckless childhood adventures—daring leaps into rivers and explorations of Galahd Canyon. These formative experiences cemented a camaraderie that endured into adulthood. After Niflheim’s invasion destroyed their homeland and families, Libertus and Nyx sought refuge in Insomnia, joining the Kingsglaive, an elite unit empowered by King Regis’s magic to defend Lucis.

Known for his boisterous cheer and candidness, Libertus harbors a fierce devotion to Galahd’s traditions, a loyalty that often fuels impulsive choices. He adopts Crowe Altius, a fellow Glaive discovered as a child on Lucis’s borders, as a surrogate younger sister, nurturing her with protective zeal. This instinctive guardianship over comrades fractures when Crowe dies on a covert mission, an event he attributes to King Regis’s apathy. Disillusioned further by the king’s ceasefire treaty surrendering Galahd to Niflheim, Libertus deserts to aid Lucian rebels, unintentionally enabling the empire’s infiltration of Insomnia.

Amid Niflheim’s betrayal and Insomnia’s fall, Libertus faces the fallout of his rebellion upon uncovering the rebels’ manipulation by the empire. He redeems his allegiance by assisting Nyx and Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, escorting her to safety after Nyx sacrifices himself to vanquish General Glauca. Post-cataclysm, Libertus retreats to Galahd, persisting in futile correspondence with Nyx, clinging to hope against fading odds.

In Insomnia’s aftermath, Libertus emerges as a leader among Kingsglaive survivors in Lestallum, coordinating with figures like Cor Leonis to battle encroaching daemons as darkness consumes the world. He supports amnesiac Glaives, allocates supplies, and aids in defending Angelgard to pave Noctis’s prophesied return. A decade later, he witnesses the king’s resurgence, dedicating himself to preserving the Kingsglaive’s legacy while confronting his own guilt and grief.

In combat, Libertus favors pragmatic brutality with a short axe or butcher knife, augmented by warping magic linked to physical armaments—a hallmark of non-royal Glaives. His arc traces a path from disillusioned deserter to resolute leader, navigating loyalty’s fractures, redemption’s burdens, and war’s enduring scars during Lucis’s most desperate trials.
