Description
Jet Link, designated Cyborg 002, began as an Italian-American teen delinquent leading street gangs on New York City's West Side. A confrontation resulted in his accidental killing of a rival gang member, triggering police pursuit. Black Ghost operatives captured him under the pretense of rescue, forcibly converting him into a cyborg. Originally slated as Cyborg 001, he became 002 after Ivan Whisky (001) displayed superior psychic aptitude during development. Technical limitations led to his cryogenic freezing among the first four cyborgs, with reactivation occurring once technology advanced.

Physically, Jet possesses a tall, lanky frame, bright red windswept hair, and a prominent pointed nose. His standard uniform is a red military-style outfit with a yellow scarf, though the "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR" OVA depicts him in deep blue. Jet boosters are integrated into his knee-high boots.

Personality-wise, Jet exhibits a brash, rebellious, and hot-tempered demeanor, often acting impulsively in combat—a contrast to earlier manga portrayals where he appeared more level-headed. Underlying this exterior is fierce loyalty to teammates and Dr. Gilmore, a protective instinct toward children, and lingering guilt over failing vulnerable youth during his delinquent years. This guilt drives narratives like "The Awakening," where he mentors psychic alien children to atone for past inaction. He also displays occasional nurturing tendencies, notably bonding with a boy named Jimmy.

His primary ability is supersonic flight via foot-mounted boosters, reaching Mach 5 speeds and altitudes up to 3,000 meters. He wields a multi-mode firearm and a flawed prototype Acceleration Module. In "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR," Ivan unlocks Jet's latent psychic abilities, enabling light-speed flight with fiery trails. Jet also demonstrates artistic skill, such as painting the team's ship, The Dolphin.

Jet's arcs include enduring hatred for Black Ghost over his forced transformation. During the "Underground Empire of Yomi" manga arc, he sacrifices himself to rescue Joe Shimamura (009) from orbit, accepting death until Ivan teleports them to safety. Post-Black Ghost, he attempts civilian life as a professional football player and F1 racer, later becoming a youth counselor. "The Glacier of Love" explores his existential cyborg struggles, while "Aztec" reveals repressed trauma over accidentally killing the Shark gang leader. His relationships include friction with Albert Heinrich (004) and unspoken affection for Françoise Arnoul (003).
