Description
Katsuma, bearing the mantle of Moon Knight, serves as an executive in the Great Lunarium Kingdom. Branded at birth with a crescent moon crest signifying his low-caste status within Lunarian society, he suffers persistent neglect and abuse from higher-ranking female executives, notably Princess Lunatemis. His existence revolves around servitude as a gofer and scapegoat, enduring disproportionate punishments and blame for others' failures despite unwavering loyalty. This relentless mistreatment breeds profound insecurities and an inferiority complex, amplified by his perceived combat weakness and repeated defeats, often at the hands of Earth's superhero Silva Star.
A critical betrayal unfolds when Lunatemis and fellow executives sabotage Katsuma's battle with Silva Star, nearly causing both their deaths. Surviving this treachery, a rage-consumed Katsuma encounters the imprisoned ancient evil, Dai Shi. Lured by promises of fulfilled desires, Katsuma releases Dai Shi and becomes possessed. This grants him new powers, including the Emblem Steal, enabling him to seize the power-bestowing crests of his superiors. He overthrows the Lunarium leadership, ascends to rulership, and allies with the Dimensions of the Azure Void to wage interdimensional war.
Under Dai Shi's thrall, Katsuma initially exhibits ruthless brutality and a singular focus on vengeance, showing no remorse. Fleeting moments of compassion, however, surface—such as rescuing a child mid-battle—revealing an internal war against the spirit's control. This conflict peaks when heroes, including Volthur, exploit Katsuma's residual humanity to forcibly expel Dai Shi. Defeated and freed from possession, Katsuma is crushed by guilt over his atrocities and retreats into self-imposed exile, distancing himself from others out of fear of his lingering darkness.
His path to redemption begins when Volthur seeks his aid against emerging threats. Initially hesitant, Katsuma gradually rejoins the fight, battling alongside former enemies. During a confrontation with Shamuhaza, he awakens the true form of the patron god Tsukuyomi alongside the priestess Kaguya, becoming its herald. This partnership and acceptance foster trust, a fortified sense of justice, and a developing sarcastic wit. He forges deep bonds, particularly with Kaguya and Sora, dedicating himself to protecting those he cherishes, marking his transformation from tormented villain to committed guardian.
