Laira (sometimes spelled Lyla) is one of three Lunar Ferris Academy schoolgirls from the Moon. As the daughter of Earth's president, she belongs to the elite social class. She, Meifa (daughter of Eterna's designer), and Jojo (daughter of a prominent aerospace CEO) become stranded in space after Earth's supercomputer, Eterna, orchestrates a system-wide shutdown. They are rescued by Seitarou Yaoi, captain of the unregistered smuggling vessel *Iron Goblin*, which avoided shutdown due to its lack of official registration.

Initially presented as less developed, Laira and her friends gradually become part of the ship's crew. Their backgrounds prove relevant to the central conflict against Eterna's robotic uprising, which has imprisoned humanity. Laira joins the crew's mission to reach Earth, confront Eterna, and resolve the crisis. Her character, along with the others, evolves from their initial portrayal as schoolgirls into more active participants. Interactions during routine shipboard activities contribute to their integration into the group by the series' conclusion.
