Description
Tae Yamada earned the moniker The Legendary Tae Yamada as the seventh member of zombie idol group Franchouchou. In her human life, she balanced part-time work at her father's Karatsu Burgers food stand with secretly leading the Saga Sagako Busters, a group combating supernatural curses afflicting Saga Prefecture. Her parents perished during a government raid when she shielded a mysterious "child" under their research; this tragedy forged a cold, vengeful personality solely dedicated to annihilating Sagako curses. As the group's leader, she wielded a shovel in battle and depended on the Hyodo twins' curse-sealing abilities. Her stern demeanor softened through her relationship with Yuko Hyodo. After Yuko's transformation, Tae recruited Yuko's brother Eikichi, initially treating him with harshness that gradually evolved into a trusting partnership. A final confrontation with the Spider Sagako culminated in her fusing her soul with the curse entity Magatsuhi to seal it, causing her immediate death.
Physically, Tae possesses long, straight dark plum hair. Distinctive bangs reflected her human emotional state, standing upright when agitated and relaxing when calm. She stands 170 cm tall with a proportionate figure, often hidden by baggy clothing. As a zombie, her extensively bandaged body leaves only her face and hands exposed. She typically wears a loose black dress tied with white rope, gray knee-high socks, and black shoes. Her idol costumes evolve: early outfits feature a purple "Zero" T-shirt and skirt, later changing to a red jacket with plaid detailing, a purple skirt, and knee-high boots.
Unlike her reanimated peers, Tae remains largely non-verbal and instinct-driven, frequently biting objects or people, especially Junko Konno. She communicates through groans yet demonstrates language comprehension and situational awareness, participating in group practices and performances. Her behavior includes chewing on hair, attacking costumed individuals mistaken for food, and consuming non-edible items like plates. Despite these feral tendencies, she exhibits protective instincts—biting antagonists threatening teammates or scaring away wild boars—and remains harmless.
Over time, Tae shows gradual cognitive development. She progresses from indiscriminate biting to intentional mimicry, imitating dance moves, facial expressions, and vocalizations like counting or rooster crows. She demonstrates problem-solving by completing errands independently and displays curiosity, lying attempts, and cooperative behaviors like guiding Sakura through dance steps. Her emotional range includes expressing happiness through biting during affectionate moments.
The spin-off *Zombie Land Saga Gaiden: The First Zombie* expands her backstory, revealing her double life as an office worker and curse fighter. Her human personality blended stoicism with occasional flamboyance, and she secretly dreamt of becoming an idol like Junko Konno, a goal she hoped to pursue after eliminating Saga's curses. Her death occurred on an inauspicious Buddhist calendar day, linked to a prophecy dooming those capable of revitalizing Saga.
As of the latest official media, Tae has not fully regained human consciousness but continues incremental progress in comprehension and social interaction while retaining instinctual zombie traits. She remains integral to group dynamics through her unpredictable yet occasionally helpful actions.
