Description
Masachika Kuze appears as an unremarkable high school student with messy dark brown or black hair and a typically disheveled uniform. Despite this, several peers find him attractive. His daily behavior is lazy and unmotivated; he often sleeps in class after late nights spent watching anime and playing gacha games. He deliberately underperforms academically, avoiding effort to stay unnoticed.

Hidden beneath this facade is significant depth. He possesses native-level Russian comprehension, secretly learned through childhood exposure to Russian films influenced by his grandfather. He keeps this ability concealed, especially from Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou, who often voices affectionate Russian remarks assuming he doesn't understand, as revealing it would complicate their interactions.

Masachika carries a troubled past. Originally Masachika Suou, heir to the prestigious Suou family, he displayed prodigious talent in academics, music, and martial arts, earning a karate black belt and advanced kendo and judo skills. Elite training under his grandfather Gensei Suou prepared him for leadership. However, destructive family dynamics took a toll: his mother remained indifferent to his achievements, his father was often absent, and his sister Yuki suffered from asthma. Witnessing parental conflict and feeling emotionally neglected led to his psychological collapse. After his parents' divorce, he left the Suou household with his father, adopting the surname Kuze under strict conditions: forfeiting his inheritance to Yuki and forbidden from publicly acknowledging his familial ties, including his relationship with his sister or mother. This abandonment fuels persistent guilt and self-loathing, contributing to his outward apathy and belief his talents are unearned and undeserved.

Key relationships define him. He maintains a deeply affectionate yet secret bond with his biological sister, Yuki Suou. Publicly, they act as childhood friends sharing otaku interests and playful banter; privately, he supports her emotionally while wrestling with guilt for leaving her as the Suou heir. His interactions with Alisa involve playful bickering masking mutual romantic feelings. He admires her brilliance, acts protectively, and joined the student council as her vice-presidential running mate to support her ambitions. Yet he deems himself unworthy of her affection, misinterpreting her Russian flirtations as teasing. His possessiveness and jealousy emerge when she interacts with others.

A pivotal figure from his past is Maria Mikhailovna Kujou (Masha), Alisa's older sister. As children, he befriended the blonde-haired girl near his grandfather's home. To communicate with her, he diligently studied Russian. He protected her from a dog attack, resulting in a permanent shoulder scar. Their bond deepened into mutual affection, but her family's move to Russia severed their connection. Reunited in high school, neither initially recognized the other, though physical contact like hugging sparked familiarity. Maria later confessed her enduring feelings and revealed her fabricated "boyfriend" was him, creating tension given his growing attachment to Alisa. Masachika sought closure by fulfilling a childhood promise to play piano for her, though Maria affirmed her unresolved feelings afterward.

Other significant connections include Ayano Kimishima, his former maid from the Suou household now serving Yuki. He trusts her but remains wary of her predictive insights into his behavior; her quiet demeanor and occasional interference for Yuki's sake cause sporadic friction. His grandfather Kyoutarou Kuze provided refuge during familial strife, facilitating his exposure to Russian media and language.

Throughout his development, Masachika gradually confronts his emotional burdens. He leverages his strategic intellect and social expertise to navigate student council politics and interpersonal conflicts, though he masks these capabilities. Moments of vulnerability reveal his self-doubt and protective instincts, like shielding Yuki from bullies in their youth. His romantic conflicts intensify as he balances unresolved feelings for Maria with his deepening connection to Alisa, often triggering jealousy or possessiveness. Despite internal struggles, he demonstrates unwavering loyalty, exemplified by declaring unconditional support for Alisa's goals. Physical reminders, like the scar from saving Maria, symbolize his enduring protective nature.
