Description
Hobberdy Dick is a hobgoblin, a domestic spirit bound to Widford Manor in the Cotswolds where he has resided for approximately 300 years. His existence stems from folklore traditions of household helpers. As such, his primary role involves performing domestic tasks and maintaining the household, including activities like cleaning.

He requires sustenance through small, discreet offerings such as bread or milk. Providing these tokens maintains his cooperative nature and service. However, if treated directly as a non-servant, such as by receiving gifts, the magic binding him dissipates. Freed from servitude, he abandons his duties and engages in mischievous or troublesome actions.

He belongs to the category of "House Fairies," beings magically subjugated to suppress inherent goblin brutality and enforce obedience to human households. Without the sustaining offerings and the implicit master-servant dynamic, he risks transitioning into a boggart, bogie, or bogeyman—freed hobgoblins known for causing harm or mischief.
