Claudia Braford (alternatively spelled Bruford) is the main protagonist from Sheffield, England, born September 13, 2006. She comes from a family with Northern European heritage and a military background. Her soldier father, an enthusiast of Japanese culture, moved the family frequently, fostering Claudia's habit of collecting postcards and her skill with chopsticks. She wears a cherished airplane wing-shaped hair clip, a keepsake from her father. Claudia has a younger twin sister, Sirin, who experiences sudden sleep attacks due to a medical condition, making Claudia fiercely protective. Physically, Claudia stands 164 cm tall with blue eyes and long blonde hair reaching her hips, typically styled with bangs and two waist-length strands. Her primary attire is a navy and white military uniform worn with thigh-high white socks featuring blue and red stripes at the top. Her personality blends calm professionalism with emotional vulnerability. She approaches her Valkyrie duties with seriousness and responsibility, displaying honesty and occasional social awkwardness, especially missing jokes or cues. Haunted by deep survivor's guilt, she calls herself the "Grim Reaper" or "Death God" as the sole survivor of her squadrons repeatedly, leading to moroseness after missions. Despite her reserved nature, she exhibits superhuman strength and endurance, enabling feats like carrying Sirin. She also possesses a notably large appetite, consuming vast quantities of food easily. As an S-Class Valkyrie bearing the title "Schwertleite," Claudia is one of only nine globally recognized Named Valkyries. She pilots a Gloster Gladiator MkII biplane, call sign "Blade 1," stationed at Tateyama Air Base in Japan following prior assignments with European units New Sigrdrifa, VS102, and VS909. Her combat abilities include wielding three magical "Tyrfing" bullets; activating one summons angelic wings and a magic circle on her plane. One such bullet destroyed a Secondary Pillar at Mont Blanc. Odin granted her the unique power to open the gates of Valhalla, highlighting her importance against the Pillars. Her key relationships center on unwavering dedication to Sirin. She shielded Sirin during a perilous escape before their rescue by fellow Valkyrie Rusalka Evereska, an event that motivated Claudia to volunteer as a Valkyrie for Sirin's protection. However, after a critical battle, Claudia lost all memory of Sirin due to unexplained circumstances, leaving only Odin and Rusalka aware of Sirin's existence. She also maintains bonds with former European comrades Lizbet Crown and Leyli Haltija. Background elements include a familial lullaby ("Claudia’s Lullaby") featuring lyrics derived from Norse mythology, sometimes sung by Odin. She associates herself with a gorilla due to her physical strength. Rusalka sends her two birthday gifts every year. Her Gloster Gladiator aircraft shares a historical link with British writer Roald Dahl, who piloted the same model during wartime.
