Gengorō Makabe hails from a parallel Earth without magic, living ordinarily with his mother and younger sister until a truck accident claimed his life. This event transported him to the UQ Holder universe, where he acquired video game-inspired magical abilities centered around a life stock system granting him extra lives. He accumulates lives through good deeds, with a maximum capacity of 65,535. Upon death, he respawns as a clone and enjoys three seconds of invulnerability. He can also release all stocked lives simultaneously to create multiple clones.
His powers include a digital heads-up display vision filter that analyzes opponents' identities and powers through a status screen interface. He wields exceptional physical strength, demonstrated by lifting swords weighing 20,000 times their normal weight, and exhibits high-level swordsmanship, typically carrying a katana.
Professionally stoic and dedicated, he assumed managerial duties within UQ Holder after Jinbei Shishido's disappearance, referring to Jinbei as his master despite objections. During a terrorist attack, he expended all lives to protect others, temporarily losing his immortality. By saving mortals in the crisis, he earned one life back, reactivating his abilities.
In the conflict against Ialda and Negi Springfield's corrupted allies, his powers were neutralized, returning him to his original parallel Earth. This displacement accidentally pulled Touta Konoe and Jūzō Shishimi along. To return to the UQ Holder world, he leaped from a rooftop with them, arriving precisely when his powers were nullified. Roughly a decade after the final battle against the Mage of the Beginning, he played a vital role in mitigating the catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano. Following this, he permanently returned to his home dimension.
