Description
Rozé is the alias of Sakuya Sumeragi, biological daughter of Jugo Sumeragi (Governor of Hokkaido) and Sherry me Britannia (eldest daughter of Emperor Charles zi Britannia). As a child, she forged a close bond with her body double, Sakura Haruyanagininomiya. Following the Neo-Britannian Empire's occupation of Hokkaido, an escape attempt saw Sakura captured while Sakuya escaped alone, fueling her later motivations.
Encountering her uncle L.L., Sakuya received the Geass "Power of Absolute Obedience," enabling hypnotic commands through her voice. Returning to Hokkaido, she learned Ash Phoenix was involved in her father Jugo's death. Consumed by vengeance, Sakuya used her Geass on Ash, compelling him to believe she was his deceased younger brother Roze. This fabricated bond became the foundation of their "Nameless Mercenaries" partnership. Operating under the alias Rozé, she used a voice-changing choker to suppress her Geass power, alter her eye color, and maintain her disguised appearance as an androgynous young man.
Presenting as the laid-back, cheerful, and blunt Rozé, she served as the strategic intelligence counterpart to Ash's combat skills. Together, they allied with the Seven Shining Stars resistance, participating in missions like the assault on Abashiri Concentration Camp. However, her true identity as Sakuya harbored a colder, calculating persona focused solely on rescuing Sakura and avenging her parents. She secretly planned to kill Ash once her goals were achieved.
Her development intensified upon discovering the full context of her father's death: Norland von Lunebelg killed Ash's biological brother, prompting Ash's rebellion and imprisonment alongside Jugo. A failed escape attempt resulted in Jugo's death, after which Ash willingly sought to protect Sakuya out of loyalty to her father, rendering her Geass command unnecessary. This revelation, coupled with learning she had inadvertently erased Ash's memories of his brother, horrified Sakuya. She recognized her own recklessness and overconfidence in relying on Geass, culminating in her capture by Christoph Scissorman, who discovered her identity and power.
Further trauma ensued when an Anti-Geass device dispelled her control over Ash. Enraged by the deception and manipulation, Ash confronted her with intent to kill. Facing the consequences, she apologized sincerely. Following these events and Norland's defeat, Sakuya chose redemption: she permanently sealed her Geass by using it on herself to become mute, symbolizing her rejection of its power. She then ascended to rule Hokkaido, focusing on governance rather than vengeance.
