Description
Kōji Shigemoto's defining tragedy occurred 15 years before the main story: a supernatural disaster killed his magical-girl sister Alice during her fight against the catastrophe, forging his lifelong motivations. Prior to founding his own company, he served as a government magic technician and engineer. He later joined Kei Koga’s team, collaborating with Alice and engineer Sho Manao on the covert "Project Magilumiere," developing supportive magic for magical girls. Alice’s death in a kaii calamity cemented his enduring guilt and dedication to preventing such losses.

Ten years pre-story, Shigemoto co-established Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. with Kaede Midorikawa, a former host-club acquaintance who became his emotional anchor post-Alice. Midorikawa convinced him that wearing magical girl attire would deepen his understanding of their struggles, leading Shigemoto to adopt it daily as a tribute to Alice. The company floundered until years later, when Hitomi Koshigaya joined as its first magical girl, enabling full operations. Under Shigemoto’s leadership, Magilumiere expanded to include magical girls Kana Sakuragi, Akane Makino, and Iroha Akasaka, alongside engineers Kazuo Nikoyama and Hibiki Yamimori.

Visually, Shigemoto sports long black hair tied in a ponytail or ribbon, often with a stray strand obscuring his face, and perpetually tired eyes. He deliberately mirrors Alice’s hairstyle and clothing in his daily magical-girl costumes, though their designs vary—sometimes incorporating motifs like musical themes for events. He switches to conventional suits for formal meetings, contrasting sharply with his work attire. Pre-Alice’s death, he wore standard professional clothing with short hair.

Despite his weary demeanor, Shigemoto operates as a serious, compassionate president, earning employee trust through integrity, relentless work ethic, and prioritizing safety. He treats his team as family, offering encouragement during hardships and openly celebrating their successes. His idealism drives ethical magical-girl operations, epitomized by his energy-efficient "Alice System" to minimize collateral damage and kaii mutations—a stance that clashes with profit-focused rivals. He remains fixated on realizing Alice’s dream of a safer world for magical girls.

His legendary engineering skill produced the "Alice System," enabling real-time coordination between operators and magical girls to craft low-energy, situation-specific spells. This approach reduces residual magic that triggers kaii evolution, opposing high-power systems like Kei Koga’s "WING." His technical prowess attracts talents like Iroha Akasaka.

Midorikawa’s partnership anchors Magilumiere, spanning emotional support, co-founding, and strategic schemes like investigating Sho Manao’s corruption. Shigemoto’s rivalry with Alice’s ex-boyfriend, Kei Koga, stems from opposing safety philosophies: sustainable low-risk methods versus high-powered solutions, causing their professional split. With employees, he mentors figures like Kana Sakuragi, guiding her from insecurity to leadership with paternal pride.

When Magilumiere is falsely blamed for a Tokyo Bay kaii outbreak, Shigemoto accepts full responsibility to shield his team. The company dissolves, and he faces imprisonment under Kamakura—later revealed as a coordinated ruse with Midorikawa to gather evidence against foes. Rescued by his team (reorganized as Sakuragi Planning), he resumes leadership but negotiates Magilumiere’s acquisition by Koga’s AST corporation. This merger preserves the Alice System as a dedicated division within AST’s resources. Throughout, Shigemoto’s core mission persists: honoring Alice through innovation and protecting magical girls.
