Description
Ken Takakura, nicknamed "Okarun," is a high school student defined by crippling social awkwardness and isolation, stemming from relentless bullying since elementary school. His profound loneliness fostered an intense obsession with aliens and UFOs, viewing them as potential friends, while he dismissed ghosts and spirits. This perspective shifted dramatically after an encounter with Momo Ayase, who defended him from bullies. Attempting to bond over paranormal interests, their opposing beliefs—Momo believing in spirits but not aliens—sparked a bet sending them on separate investigations. Exploring the haunted Seino City Tunnel, Okarun lost a game of tag with the yokai Turbo Granny and was cursed. The curse cost him his testicles ("kintama") and granted Turbo Granny possession of his body.

Initially, possession meant Okarun lost bodily control, attacking indiscriminately. Momo Ayase used her psychokinesis to suppress the curse, allowing him to consciously trigger a transformation while retaining his mind. Transformed, his hair turns stark white and stands upright, limbs elongate, vertical red stripes slash across his eyes, and a black jaw mask with sharp teeth covers his mouth. His clothing often appears flame-like, and enlarged feet leave him perpetually barefoot. His personality shifts from polite anxiety to lethargic nihilism and informal speech, ending sentences with "yo" and using first names with "-chan." Core traits like protectiveness towards Momo and selflessness endure.

Okarun's powers derive from Turbo Granny. He gains superhuman speed reaching 100 km/h, termed "All-Out." This speed unleashes rapid-fire attacks (headbutts, tackles, squat-powered strikes), creates afterimages, evades projectiles, and enables brief aerial sprints via leg rotation like helicopter blades. Enhanced durability and bite force let him withstand heavy blows and sever supernatural limbs. A critical limitation is All-Out's short duration—initially just two sprints before exhaustion, though training later eases this. He also teleports along telephone wires by riding magnetic fields, hindered by complex or severed lines. Separately, he discovers accidental astral projection; prolonged spirit separation risks severing the soul-body tether, preventing return. Turbo Granny's powers prevent swimming.

Okarun's journey shows gradual confidence building. Plagued by severe inferiority and social anxiety, he felt unworthy of friendship. Bonding with Momo—his first friend—spurred rigorous training (100 daily push-ups, sit-ups, squats) to master his powers and protect others. This regimen, combined with battles, improved his physique and athleticism, evident in outperforming classmates on fitness tests. His consistent selflessness includes offering his "kintama" to fund a son's medical treatment and fiercely defending allies, especially Momo. Romantic feelings for Momo emerge, though he struggles to express them, sparking jealousy over her childhood friend Jiji. He eventually acknowledges Jiji as a friend, forging his first male friendship. Rivalry with popular school idol Aira Shiratori shifts when he saves her from a yokai; she develops feelings he doesn't reciprocate due to devotion to Momo. His relationship with Turbo Granny evolves from adversarial to cooperative, as she aids his quest to regain his kintama in exchange for eventual power restoration.

Okarun's appearance evolves beyond transformations. Originally sporting a bowl cut and glasses, his hairstyle became spiky and unkempt after confronting the Flatwoods Monster. He typically wears his school gakuran uniform but dons varied outfits. Following kintama recovery, a new arc focuses on reversing a curse afflicting Momo, though specific developments in this phase remain less documented. Core traits—altruism, loyalty, and growing resilience—persist throughout.
