Description
Noel Izumi is a high school student working part-time at a family restaurant with her classmate, Shintarō Tokumitsu. She is a yuki-onna, a snow woman, whose heritage grants her a unique and challenging ability. Whenever she experiences intense emotions, particularly anxiety or fluster, she unintentionally generates cold weather and can even create blizzards. This power is difficult for her to control, with its strength tied directly to the intensity of her feelings.
This emotional incontinence led Noel to develop a deep-seated fear of social interactions. Past incidents where her powers manifested and frightened others caused her to adopt a reclusive lifestyle, making her a hikikomori for much of her life before high school. To protect herself and others, she consciously suppresses her emotions and presents a calm, detached, and cold exterior. This deliberate behavior earned her the school-wide nickname "Ice Queen." Despite this facade, she possesses a strong and sincere desire for friendship but lacks the social skills and confidence to pursue it, her only frame of reference for social interaction coming from manga and anime.
Her life begins to change after meeting Shintarō Tokumitsu, who accepts her despite her unusual abilities. He becomes her first friend in a very long time, a title she values immensely and refers to him as her "special friend." This new friendship is a source of great joy and excitement for her, though her reactions are often extreme and awkward due to her inexperience with social bonds. She does not initially recognize her growing affection for him as romantic attraction, instead interpreting her unique feelings as those one has for a very good friend, a state of unknowing love.
As she spends more time with Shintarō and his circle of friends, including Towa and Tsumugi, Noel slowly emerges from her shell. The group comes to accept her, and she begins to participate in group activities, such as going to the movies. There is a specific moment where the other girls explicitly tell her they are all friends, which is a revelation to her as she had not realized it on her own. This acceptance allows her to become more cheerful and open around them, though she retains her characteristically calm demeanor around strangers at school.
