TV-Series
Description
Chihiro Kobayashi is a student at Daijuni Middle School, where she begins in class 2-3 and later advances to class 3-1 alongside most of the main cast. She is a close friend and confidant of Anna Yamada, the school's popular model, and is part of the group of girls central to the story's social circle. Chihiro has a small and delicate physique, standing notably shorter than her peers, which contributes to her youthful and almost childlike appearance. She has a pale complexion, short brown hair cut in a neat bowl style, and warm brown eyes. Her school uniform is typically worn properly, consisting of a white, short-sleeved, collared blouse with a red ribbon tie, a blue high-waisted pleated skirt, white knee-length socks, and brown loafers. This contrasts with some of her friends who wear their uniforms more loosely.

In terms of personality, Chihiro is known for being energetic, friendly, and straightforward, often to the point of being blunt. Despite her innocent demeanor, she frequently acts as the "straight man" to Anna's more carefree and silly antics. She is quick to call out Anna when she avoids responsibilities, like cleaning duties, or when she accidentally hurts herself in a clumsy moment. This caring and protective side of her is so pronounced that the protagonist, Kyoutarou Ichikawa, privately nicknames her "Yamada's Boyfriend". She takes on a role similar to a manager for Anna at school, helping to deflect unwanted advances from other students and advising her on social situations.

However, Chihiro's most defining trait is her profound obliviousness to romance and subtle social cues, especially concerning her best friend's relationship with Kyoutarou. She is consistently the last to notice the mutual affection growing between Anna and Kyoutarou, a blind spot that often leads to comedic moments where she inadvertently interrupts them or fails to understand a situation. Her naivety extends to other areas as well; she readily believes false rumors about relationships and can be easily fooled by the romantic machinations of other students, a fact that her more perceptive friends often notice. Despite her frankness with other girls, she can be shy and awkward around boys, a vulnerability that contrasts with her otherwise bold personality.

Chihiro is also an active member of the school's basketball club. It was through this shared activity during their first year that she and Anna became close friends, even though Anna later quit the team. Despite being at a height disadvantage as a player, Chihiro is a talented and enthusiastic athlete. In elementary school, she was a top scorer in district basketball competitions and is capable of making three-point shots. Her dedication to the sport she loves is a significant part of her character and serves as a point of admiration for Anna.

Her role in the story is primarily as a supportive and grounding presence for Anna. While Kyoutarou helps Anna navigate her internal emotional world, Chihiro is a constant fixture in her daily life at school, providing companionship, comic relief, and a sense of normalcy. She shares a physically affectionate friendship with Anna, who often carries or sits on the smaller Chihiro, a visual gag that emphasizes their contrasting statures. Over the course of the narrative, her sharp, manager-like attitude from the early chapters softens, and she becomes more integrated into the friendly group dynamic, often teasing or being teased by her peers, though her romantic obliviousness remains a consistent trait. Her development is not about major change but rather about solidifying her role as the earnest, caring, yet comedically unaware best friend who is always in Anna's corner.

Several specific details add depth to her background and everyday life. She has an unspecified food allergy that prevents her from eating many snacks, a trait that has influenced Anna to eat such treats in private out of consideration for her. Chihiro enjoys chasing insects like cicadas in the park with her two younger brothers. She is a film enthusiast, with favorite movies including "The Goonies," "Léon: The Professional," and "Kids Return," and Anna often asks her for movie recommendations. Her favorite food is tuna, her favorite color is orange, and her admired celebrity is Kotori Yoshio. She also has a notable vulnerability to supernatural horror. Notably, Chihiro and her friend Yurine Hanzawa first appeared as elementary school characters in a one-shot manga titled "With Her Eyes Half-Open," which the author created three years before the start of "The Dangers in My Heart," establishing a long history for the character within the creator's body of work.
