Description
Engine Knight is the S-Class Rank 9 professional hero affiliated with the Hero Association. He is one of the most enigmatic members of the S-Class, preferring to operate alone and frequently disregarding direct orders from the Association's executives. His appearance is characterized by long black hair, a white mask featuring a single horizontal slit with a glowing red eye at its center, and a dark suit of armor that resembles a simplified version of a medieval knight's garb.

The personality of Engine Knight is defined by a calm and incredibly tactical demeanor. He is a calculating fighter who never underestimates an opponent, regardless of their perceived threat level, and is intensely focused on gathering information and data. He exhibits a ruthless streak towards monsters, being willing to use any method, including torture, to extract the information he seeks. Furthermore, he is adamant about not allowing any enemy who has witnessed his abilities to survive, presumably to prevent them from learning and exploiting any weaknesses. This cautious and secretive nature has led some within the Hero Association, such as Commander Sekingar, to view his actions with suspicion. Despite claims that he has never lost a battle, his behavior suggests a high degree of confidence rather than arrogance.

A central aspect of Engine Knights role in the story is his profound and vocal suspicion of his fellow S-Class hero, Metal Knight, whose real name is Dr. Bofoi. Engine Knight has openly accused Metal Knight of being a traitor to the Hero Association, though he has not provided concrete proof to support this claim. He has repeatedly warned the S-Class hero Genos to be wary of Metal Knight, suggesting a fundamental conflict between the two technologically advanced heroes. The motivation behind this deep-seated distrust is rooted in Engine Knights past. Information from the original webcomic reveals that he is not a cyborg but a robot originally designated as Machine God Series G Zero, or simply Zero. He was initially an incomplete artificial intelligence created by Dr. Bofoi (Metal Knight) before being stolen and altered by the scientist Dr. Kuseno. This revelation ties Engine Knight directly to the same mad cyborg that destroyed Genos's hometown, adding a personal and complex layer to his motivations and his antagonistic relationship with Metal Knight.

Engine Knights key relationship within the story is with Genos. While he has warned Genos about Metal Knight and has even engaged in a temporary fusion with him to fight a powerful enemy, his actions are often ambiguous. He has been known to abandon Genos when his power core reaches its limit, leading to questions about whether his offers of teamwork are genuine or serve a hidden agenda. Engine Knight also has a connection to the mysterious Organization, being a member of its Machine God series. His combat style and habit of collecting the bodies or parts of defeated monsters to study bear a strong resemblance to the robots sent by this group.

Engine Knights primary ability is known as Tactical Transformation. He carries a black case that allows him to reconfigure his body into several distinct forms, each designed for a specific combat situation. These forms are named after pieces in the Japanese board game shogi. Notable transformations include Chariot, a high-speed motorcycle-like mode for pursuing enemies; Knight, a centaur-like form for enhanced speed and kicking power; Flying Chariot, which grants him flight capabilities; Bishop, a heavily armored form for delivering powerful strikes; Gold, which increases his base statistics and allows him to generate intense heat; and Silver, which equips him with a sharp blade. In one instance, he used a combination of these forms to defeat Nyan, a powerful Dragon-level monster. In the original webcomic, Engine Knight eventually broke his programming, which prevented him from harming humans, and engaged in a battle against Saitama, during which he was destroyed. He has also developed a Tactical Transformation named Disaster Tama, based on Saitama. Throughout the narrative, his character development involves the gradual unveiling of his true origins as an AI created by Bofoi and his complex, evolving struggle for purpose and autonomy.
