Description
Erna, whose code name is Fool (Guujin), is one of the youngest members of the Lamplight team. She was born into an old aristocratic family but lost her parents and siblings in a tragic mansion fire when she was very young, leaving her the sole survivor. This traumatic event created a deep well of survivors guilt within her, leading her to believe that her own survival was unfair. Because of this self-loathing and a desire for self-punishment, she unconsciously developed a predisposition to attract misfortune and accidents, a condition a psychiatrist would later diagnose as a mental reliance on her own unluckiness. She would later throw herself into the dangerous world of espionage, partly as a result of this guilt and her unusual constitution.

Physically, Erna is small for her age, standing at 146cm, with bright, light blonde hair and skin so fair it is often compared to porcelain. Her delicate features and baby face give her the appearance of a crafted doll, an image often accentuated by her frilly, gothic Lolita-style spy outfit.

Erna is notably the least talkative and least social member of Lamplight, struggling significantly with communication. Her shyness and taciturn nature do not stem from a true dislike of people but rather from deep-seated fear and social anxiety, making one-on-one conversations particularly difficult for her. Despite this, she can speak more freely with people she is close to and within group settings. She is prone to sighing and has a distinctive verbal tic, often ending her sentences with sounds like no or nano. Her quiet demeanor is frequently tinged with a sense of melancholy, and the word misfortune is a common part of her vocabulary. Beneath her reserved exterior, however, she is incredibly lonely and harbors a strong desire for a big sister figure to fill the void left by her lost family.

Ernas most notable ability is her innate connection to misfortune, which manifests as an accident disaster specialization. She possesses a keen, almost supernatural sense for predicting bad luck before it occurs, often describing it as being able to smell danger. Initially unable to control this power, she was isolated and feared because she unconsciously caused accidents that harmed those around her. However, with the support of Klaus and her teammates, she learned to use her ability actively. She can detect the signs and timing of an impending accident and guide it, indirectly supporting her team by helping them evade crises such as sniper fire or ambushes. In more direct applications, she can intentionally cause chaos and disorder by jumping into dangerous situations, knowing that while her allies might be at risk, she herself is likely to survive the accidents she generates.

Within the story, Erna plays a pivotal and initially hidden role in Lamplight. She was introduced as the eighth member, a joker kept secret by Klaus because a wiretap was discovered to be planted inside the teams headquarters, the Heat Haze Palace. To protect her identity and the team's plans, Klaus concealed her existence from the other members for a time, even hiding her name and referring to the group as having only seven members. This secrecy was also reflected in the early promotional material for the series, where her presence was not disclosed. She officially joins the team after being caught following Klaus to test her abilities on him, during which he comforts her by revealing his own luck and reassures her that neither he nor Lamplight will be brought down by her misfortune.

In terms of key relationships, Erna forms a unique bond with Klaus. Despite their difficulty in holding a conversation, he is one of the few people she can truly talk to, and she enjoys taking walks with him. Among the other girls, she looks up to many of them, calling them Big Sis. Sara is one of the only teammates Erna can speak with one-on-one, and she holds a strong admiration for her. Thea also becomes an important figure for Erna, using her negotiation skills to discover Ernas desire for a big sister and offering to fill that very role, creating a space where Erna can be vulnerable. Her relationship with Annette is notably complex. They attended the same spy academy and have known each other longer than any other members of Lamplight, but their dynamic is often contentious. Annette frequently subjects Erna to excessive teasing and pranks, which Erna openly states she hates, yet she would have accepted Annettes difficult decisions regardless of her personal feelings. The two are often described as problem children who require careful management from the older members of the team. Through the course of the impossible missions, Ernas role expands from a hidden, isolated operative to an active and valued member of Lamplight. Her growth involves gaining confidence in her abilities, learning to use her misfortune proactively, and slowly opening up to form the deep, sisterly bonds she has always craved.
