Description
Lum's Father, known as Mr. Invader, rules as the oni alien king from Oniboshi. He launched the invasion of Earth but found himself pulled into his daughter Lum's life there. Once a formidable figure, decades of enjoying his wife's cooking led to significant weight gain, resulting in a stout, brutish physique. He maintains an intimidating presence through sheer loudness, large size, and prominent eyebrows, typically clad in traditional oni attire like a fundoshi.

His personality mixes warlike chauvinism and unexpected goofiness. He proclaims himself a "great Oni warlord," championing old-fashioned gender roles and planetary conquest, though his wife routinely challenges and overrules him. He projects confidence and assertiveness, displaying strategic ambition in galactic invasions and practical solutions like weaponizing his spaceship. Yet, he is equally prone to comedic ineptitude and volatile emotional outbursts.

Family dynamics drive much of his story. He adores Lum, acting as a doting parent who indulges her choices, including her life on Earth with Ataru. This indulgence sometimes leads to secretive matchmaking or manipulative schemes for her "happiness." His relationship with his wife is volatile yet affectionate; she speaks only in untranslated Oni language (shown as symbols or mah-jong tiles). While he claims household authority, he is demonstrably henpecked, fearing her wrath and frequently receiving physical discipline during arguments, hinting at Lum's inherited temperament.

His interactions with humans shift from hostility toward reluctant integration. After Lum settles on Earth, he periodically intervenes in her life, visiting or even staying with the Moroboshi family. During these stays, he bonds with Ataru's father over their shared status as henpecked husbands, delivering speeches on "manly living" that profoundly influence Ataru's father. Their relationship evolves from wariness to mutual respect, with Ataru's father later recalling Lum's Father's philosophies.

Across episodes and films, he serves as a comedic foil and catalyst for familial or interstellar conflicts. Key moments include his attempts to replace Ataru as Lum's fiancé when doubting Ataru's loyalty, and his inadvertent impact on human characters through his bombastic yet occasionally insightful actions. Despite his alien nature, his struggles with parenting, marriage, and aging render him relatable in absurd contexts.

Officially unnamed, he embodies the patriarchal archetype. His development shows a gradual softening from conqueror to a flawed but caring family figure, though his core traits—bluster, appetite, and unwavering love for Lum—remain constant.
