Sakura, commonly called Sakuranbō, works as the school nurse at Tomobiki High School. She is the niece of the priest Cherry and shares a family connection with him. Born frail, she endured a lonely childhood due to chronic illness that kept her isolated from other children; Cherry tended to her during this period. Her first experience with spirits occurred when she hid in a closet as a child.

During middle or high school, she briefly dated an unnamed boy who bicycled her home daily. Their relationship dissolved when he falsely claimed he could no longer continue, though she later discovered him dating another girl. Sakura's health transformed after accidentally colliding with Ataru Moroboshi outside a ramen shop. Sensing evil spirits within him, she attempted a purification ritual but instead transferred her illness-linked spirits to him, gaining robust health.

Sakura wields spiritual powers, exorcising and purifying demons with the chant "Haratama! Kiyotama!" She rarely summons spirits. Despite her slender frame, she displays superhuman strength when enraged, often violently repelling Ataru's persistent advances. She possesses a constant, enormous appetite, consuming massive food quantities without weight gain—even after ingesting "Beauty Foods" diet pills. This trait once ruined an all-you-can-eat restaurant financially and sparked an eating contest against the Fast-Food Fighters at Mendō’s supermarket.

Her dynamic with Cherry involves tolerating habits like stealing food while housing him and permitting experiments in her office. After transferring spirits to Ataru—causing his recurring possessions—she aids in exorcising them but despises him, physically retaliating against his flirtations. Ten developed romantic and maternal affection for her, resulting in a single date terminated when he proposed they "expose their naked selves." Sakura refused, interpreting this as misunderstanding, though he remained attached.

Engaged to Tsubame Ozuno, Sakura’s dates with him frequently unravel due to interference or misunderstandings involving Ataru and others. She interacts formally with peers: addressing Lum by name, Mendō by surname, and Ten by nickname. Her speech and demeanor reflect old-fashioned rigidity, contrasting her appearance with modern female peers. She once treated a cow bite on Lum’s arm, easing Lum’s fear of bovine transformation. Alongside nursing, Sakura actively serves as a priestess, partnering with Cherry to resolve Tomobiki’s supernatural disturbances.
