Description
Taiyo Ishigami (石上 太洋), a second-year student at Shijo-Minami Middle School, serves as a supporting member of the boys' soft tennis club. His name meaning "Deep Ocean" contrasts with his perceived lack of sunny disposition, a mismatch he does not express concern over.

He possesses short russet or ochre hair, sepia or chocolate-brown eyes, and faint freckles under his eyes. Taiyo is typically seen in his school uniform of shorts and sneakers.

Characterized by shyness, social anxiety, naivety, and fickleness, Taiyo struggles with low self-confidence, often preemptively assuming defeat against strong opponents. Initially lacking ambition in soft tennis, he required reminders of basic rules even after joining. His anxiety and difficulty making independent decisions primarily motivated his club involvement.

Taiyo comes from a family with overprotective parents who exhibit constant fear of injury, treat him like a young child, and initially preferred he join the brass band. His father, depicted as gracious and supportive, has short golden-brown hair, auburn eyes, glasses, and wears casual attire like a beige sweater and jeans.

Within the soft tennis club, Taiyo plays doubles. Initially partnered ineffectively with Shingo Takenouchi in the back position, drawing criticism for poor coordination, Maki Katsuragi restructured the pairs. Taiyo was placed with Nao Tsukinose under the motto "Mut! Energy! Victory!", a partnership proving significantly more compatible and effective.

Taiyo faced significant physical challenges, particularly poor stamina. During early training, he became nauseous running 20 laps around the sports field. Following a loss to opponents from Misaki Academy, he and Nao committed to rigorous endurance training focused on running to improve strength and stamina.

His competitive record includes several matches: losing a test match 2-0 with Shingo against Maki and Toma Shinjo; later, with Nao, narrowly losing 15-13 in another test match against the same pair; losing 3-1 to Miwa Kazumi and Oi Ayumu during a practice match against Misaki Academy. In the Summer Regional Championship Qualifiers, substituting for injured teammates, Taiyo and Nao faced Sasaki and Kawakami from Misaki Academy. Intimidated and lacking confidence against older opponents, they employed Maki's strategy to confuse them with unconventional positioning shifts. Initial success demanded excessive running, exposing their endurance limitations, leading to a 2-3 loss.

Throughout his club participation, Taiyo experiences gradual development, transitioning from a hesitant, insecure individual lacking stamina to someone actively working to overcome physical limitations through dedicated training. His partnership with Nao fosters teamwork and shared purpose, marking a shift from his initial lack of drive.
