Description
Keiji Onizuka serves as a Japanese crew member in the Annex I project under Squad 1 leader Shokichi Komachi. He possesses a well-built, fit physique, red hair, and black eyes. Deeply caring for fellow crew members and committed to protecting humanity, he notably saved his enemy Hong from a Terraformar. Keiji exhibits prudish discomfort around female nudity or bodily fluids and adheres to a strict personal principle against physical violence, instilled by his father's teachings about using strength to help others. He maintained this belief even after Xi Chun-Li injured his ribs and testicles.

His childhood was isolated, spent mostly at home watching movies with his mother on an island, leaving him without friends due to logistical constraints. This led him to become a taciturn, dedicated professional boxer who rose to become the lightweight world champion. His body adapted well to weight loss, allowing him to plan a move to super featherweight after conquering the lightweight class. However, symptoms of retinal detachment ended his boxing career. Though surgery cured the detachment, he incurred significant debt to regain his boxing license. Initially refusing the Annex Project to resolve his debts, he reconsidered after his mother's death and the loss of his nostalgic view of the island from the mainland. He joined the project seeking "the best eyes," motivated by romanticism.

During the Annex I mission on Mars, Keiji battled a Pachyrhynchus Infernalis Terraformar. Suffering severe injuries, including damage to his right eye and left arm, he drew strength from his resolve to return to Earth and show his mother a normal life with friends and a lover. This resolve enabled him to deliver the decisive blow that defeated the Terraformar. Later, during Squad 4's betrayal, he infiltrated Annex 1's base to disable a signal jammer, confronting Xi Chun-Li. After their battle, they formed an uneasy alliance to combat a Honey Badger Terraformar. In the Plan Alpha escape sequence, Keiji faced a Terraformar spawned from his own severed arm, which possessed identical mantis shrimp abilities.

Keiji's capabilities originate from the M.O. Operation, granting him the traits of the peacock mantis shrimp. This includes extraordinary punching power capable of breaking the hardest insect exoskeletons, enhanced vision allowing him to see infrared and ultraviolet spectra and detect camouflaged enemies, and rapid limb regeneration. He uses integrated arm weights called "Gonna Fly Now," functioning as protective armor and restraints. Removing them significantly increases his speed and striking power at the cost of defense, a tactic employed in critical battles. His fighting style emphasizes evasion and counter-punching, reflecting his background as a southpaw boxer.

A dedicated spin-off manga, *Terra Formars Gaiden: Keiji Onizuka*, explores his story further. Personal trivia includes his preference for sashimi, particularly shrimp, and his dislike for people carrying umbrellas horizontally. His name etymology derives from "Keiji" (慶次), meaning "congratulate, celebrate" and "next," and "Onizuka" (鬼塚), meaning "demon" and "mound."
