Description
Taiyō Ishigami, a reserved second-year Shijo Minami Middle School student with short ochre hair and faint under-eye freckles, navigates soft tennis under the shadow of his overprotective parents. Their cautious objections to sports, favoring safer pursuits like brass band, shape his early self-doubt, where he anticipates defeat against formidable rivals. Initially paired with Shingo Takenouchi in doubles, their mismatched dynamic yields poor results until Maki Katsuragi reshuffles partnerships, uniting Taiyō with Nao Tsukinose. Embracing the rallying cry “Courage! Energy! Victory!”, the duo devises unpredictable court strategies, frequently swapping positions to destabilize opponents. Despite relentless stamina-focused training through running drills, their summer regional qualifier against Misaki Middle School’s upperclassmen ends in loss, echoing prior defeats against Misaki’s Miwa and Oi.

Two years post-series, Taiyō persists in soft tennis, partnering with Rintarō Futsu to recruit newcomers, his journey reflecting steady growth from tentative athlete to committed club advocate. While family tensions and personal struggles remain unexplored, his enduring presence on the court underscores a quiet evolution in resilience.
