Description
Fumiya Kuroba belongs to the Kuroba family, a Yotsuba Clan branch specialized in intelligence gathering and operational oversight. As eldest son of Kuroba Mitsugu, he was originally the secondary candidate to succeed Yotsuba Maya as clan head but chose to withdraw in favor of his cousin Shiba Miyuki, a decision backed by his family. His mother Shinonome Aya died young, leading to his father's doting behavior towards him and his twin sister Ayako.

Fumiya possesses a strikingly feminine appearance featuring large almond-shaped eyes, a narrow nose, and red lips. This often results in him being cross-dressed for missions, a practice he finds personally irritating. Delayed puberty prolonged the effectiveness of this disguise through high school. By university, he adopted an androgynous style to avoid overt cross-dressing while maintaining gender ambiguity.

Personality-wise, Fumiya is cheerful and serious but harbors a complex about his youthful looks and voice. He deeply admires his cousin Shiba Tatsuya, addressing him as "Tatsuya-niisama" and striving to emulate his perceived coolness and reliability—partly stemming from Tatsuya refining Ayako's magic in their childhood. Fumiya resents his father viewing Tatsuya as merely a tool. His close relationship with Ayako is marked by her frequent teasing, especially regarding his reverence for Tatsuya.

Magically, Fumiya specializes in perception-based abilities and mental interference magic, reflecting the Kuroba focus on intelligence. His high sensitivity to psions and pushions enables advanced tracking via residual trails in the Idea. In combat, he employs "Direct Pain," a sensory-systematic magic amplifying a target's pain perception, often combined with "Phantom Blow" to conceal its effects. He also uses "Mock Teleportation" for near-instant movement and sound-dampening magic for stealth. He demonstrated this prowess by single-handedly defeating First High School's undefeated rookie team in Monolith Code during the 2096 Nine Schools Competition.

Fumiya frequently collaborates with Ayako on missions, where she handles espionage while he neutralizes threats. During the Nine Schools Competition, Yotsuba Maya tasked them with diverting public attention from Tatsuya and Miyuki by showcasing their full abilities, sparking rumors about their Yotsuba ties. This required them to interact publicly with Tatsuya as strangers while privately coordinating parasite investigations.

Later, during the Ancient City Insurrection arc, Fumiya assisted in hunting Zhou Gongjin, expressing shame over Zhou's initial escape. In the Yotsuba Succession arc, he formally withdrew his candidacy at a family gathering, fully endorsing Miyuki. He later comforted Ayako after Maya announced Tatsuya and Miyuki's engagement, recognizing Maya's manipulation to secure Tatsuya's loyalty.

In the Magian Company storyline, Fumiya joined Tatsuya's "research club" investigating groups like FEHR and FAIR. He led operations capturing Humanity Front members and coordinated the encirclement of the Izayoi residence to apprehend Kurenai Anzu, using his perception magic to track her after Tatsuya disabled her reflect magic. His role evolved into leadership within the Kuroba family, overseeing subordinates like Yuki, who became his direct operative after pledging loyalty to "Yami"—Fumiya's operational codename.

Fumiya's development involves transitioning from clan leadership candidate to future head of the Kuroba family, balancing field missions with strategic responsibilities while maintaining his unwavering respect for Tatsuya and dedication to Yotsuba interests.
