Description
Zhou Gongjin operates as a significant antagonist behind the scenes. Originally affiliated with the Ancient Magic Faction at Dahan's Kunlunfang Institute as an apprentice to Jiedo Heigu, he faced exile to the USA (later USNA) in 2054 following the discovery of side effects from the Surgery of Perpetual Youth. After Dahan's destruction by the Yotsuba Clan during the Nightmare of 2062 and its subsequent assimilation into the Great Asian Union in 2064, Zhou harbors profound resentment towards Japan, the Great Asian Union, and specifically targets the Yotsuba family for revenge.
Evading capture for roughly three decades, Zhou settled in Yokohama's Chinatown around 2086. By 2092, he established a restaurant serving as a front for clandestine activities, including smuggling operatives and orchestrating schemes to destabilize his enemies. His operations involve manipulating conflicts to weaken both Japan and the Great Asian Union, aiming to exploit their diminished power for greater personal freedom and to facilitate his vendetta.
Physically, Zhou possesses long waist-length hair, yellow eyes, and retains a youthful appearance resembling his 20s due to the Surgery of Perpetual Youth, despite being in his 60s. Outwardly dignified and polite, his demeanor masks a manipulative nature. He strategically leverages others' emotions to achieve objectives, though he occasionally intervenes to protect subordinates, indicating a complex moral code.
Zhou's core objective is the destruction of the Yotsuba family. His multi-phase plans included: engineering the Scorched Halloween conflict to deplete Japanese combat magicians and the Great Asian Union's military strength, succeeding in eliminating the Union's Strategic-Class Magician Liu Yunde but failing to significantly weaken Japan due to interference by Ooguro Ryuuya (Shiba Tatsuya); propagating negative public sentiment toward magicians in Japan, partially achieved but undermined by countermeasures like First High School's thermonuclear fusion reactor demonstration; ordering the assassination of Sawamura Maki after her father reneged on a media agreement, thwarted by Shiba Tatsuya; sabotaging the Nine Schools Competition via parasites, neutralized by Shiba Tatsuya and allies, forcing Zhou to flee the Kuroba Family; and brainwashing the Traditionalists to aid his escape, defeated by a coalition including Shiba Tatsuya, Ichijou Masaki, and Kudou Minoru. Cornered, Zhou used a self-immolation spell to avoid capture, though his spiritual essence later resided within Kudou Minoru under the Kudou Family's Loyalty Ancient Magic.
As a magician, Zhou specializes in hybrid techniques blending Eastern and Western traditions. Notable abilities include Ghost Walker (misdirection magic), Shadow Beast (synthetic creatures conjured from shadows via talismans), Genjuu (illusionary beasts exploiting target anxiety), and high-speed regenerative healing. He employs talismans and handkerchiefs as magical mediums and is considered a top-tier combatant, capable of severely injuring powerful figures like Kuroba Mitsugu.
His true nature is non-human; he exists as a spiritual entity akin to a parasite, independent of a physical host. Relationships involve serving Jiedo Heigu while privately holding contempt for him, and coordinating with groups like Blanche and Headless Dragon to further his goals.
