Description
Mikado Shirogane, heir to the prestigious Shirogane family, initially serves as board chairman of Shadowverse Battle College. Possessing exceptional natural talent since childhood, he surpassed his father's Shadowverse skill early on. To avoid upsetting his father, Mikado deliberately concealed his abilities and accepted repeated losses. This dynamic shattered when he accidentally defeated his father, triggering a psychological shift where he began to derive pleasure from crushing opponents and asserting his superiority. His fearful father appointed Mikado chairman in a bid to foster empathy, a quality Mikado fundamentally lacked as he viewed others as inherently inferior.

Mikado presented a calm and cheerful demeanor while harboring a condescending and sadistic mentality, using Shadowverse to dominate others and alleviate boredom. He imposed unfair rules during the Shadowverse Club Tournament, threatening Seventh Flame with expulsion if they lost, yet acknowledged their victory and later entrusted Light Tenryu with a data box linked to Light's destiny. Mikado consistently defeated Light in their initial encounters, reinforcing his belief that innate talent supersedes effort, which he dismissed as "poison for the untalented."

His worldview faced challenges during the Shadowverse World Ranking, where he held the top spot until Light achieved an unexpected victory using Lævateinn Dragon's hidden ability, resulting in a tie. Mikado initially retained his arrogance. During the battle against the Seven Shadows in the Shadow Area, his loss to Hiro Ryugasaki caused an emotional breakdown. Hiro's efforts to make Mikado confront his isolation and Light's persistent concern began eroding his defenses. After wandering alone, Mikado reflected on how his talent alienated others and acknowledged Light's genuine camaraderie.

A pivotal moment occurred during Luca Yonazuki's battle; Mikado hesitated defensively, fearing further failure. Encouraged by Light and Seventh Flame, he regained composure and secured a critical victory, tying the overall score. Later, during the mission against the Arc Ruler's Shade invasion, Mikado teamed with Ryoga Jasei to confront Himmel in the Sky Tower. He rejected Himmel's assertion of human inferiority, and Garuel's evolution into Garuel, Seraphic Shine secured their win. Mikado demonstrated loyalty by entrusting his Bahamut card to Light and supporting him during the final battle against Wolfram Zerga, helping clear Light's path to victory.

When offered the chance to erase memories of saving the world, Mikado accepted, valuing only the respect of those he personally acknowledged. Post-crisis, he resigned as chairman to become a regular student, declining Light's invitation to join Seventh Flame directly. He chose instead to stand as Light's rival, culminating in a World Ranking tiebreaker battle that symbolized his development from an isolated antagonist to a connected, competitive ally.
