Description
Iria Solari, a classical violinist, was recalled by the Principality of Zeon's armed forces during mobilization in October U.C. 0078 before the full-scale outbreak of the One Year War. Her exceptional mobile suit piloting skills and leadership secured her command of the newly formed Red Wolf Squadron. The squadron's destruction of three Earth Federation Space Force fleets during the Battle of Loum became legendary within Zeon's military forces.

Following Zeon's Earth Invasion stalemate, Solari and her squadron were reassigned to the 1st MS Company, 7th Battalion of the Mixed Mobile Brigade in Romania. On November 6, U.C. 0079, they participated in the recapture operation of the Cluj-Napoca military base. Responding to a distress call from Major Joshua Stein's battalion, the Red Wolf Squadron suffered devastating losses when the Federation deployed the advanced RX-78[G]E Gundam EX. Solari survived alongside subordinate Kneeland LeSean after their customized Zakus were destroyed, though the deaths of squadron members Reid Ghelfi and Kale Zavaleta profoundly affected her.

Solari exhibits pragmatic leadership, prioritizing her squadron's survival while maintaining a realistic perspective on the war. Patriotic but avoiding Zeon's ultranationalist propaganda, she views military service as duty rather than sacred obligation. Self-sacrifice defines her character, exemplified when she volunteered to defend the Odessa spaceport to enable Major Rolph Ronet's evacuation convoy to escape Earth. The loss of her husband Daltum to an airstrike shapes her motivations, strengthening her resolve to survive and reunite with their young son.

Her combat abilities include emerging Newtype traits manifesting as heightened spatial awareness, premonitions of danger, and enhanced reflexes. She dismissed these as products of military training and natural human evolution, not supernatural phenomena. Solari demonstrated tactical ingenuity by persuading Technical Captain Alfee Zydos and mechanics at Zeon's Recycling Centre to construct functional Zakus from salvaged parts within hours to repel an imminent Federation attack, earning respect from superiors including Major General Yuri Kellerne.

After the Cluj-Napoca defeat, Solari organized survivors LeSean, tank commander Ander Heaton, infantry soldier Hailey Arhun, and medic Ony Kasuga to reach the Romanian Mixed Mobile Brigade Headquarters. Finding it destroyed, they retreated to a nearby recycling center. There, she secured two makeshift Zakus and defended the facility against Federation forces, though much of it was destroyed.

Solari later led a mission to infiltrate a Federation base near The Olt and steal GM mobile suits for analysis. She encountered a young boy wandering the military facility during this operation. The mission failed after a confrontation with the Gundam EX, resulting in LeSean sacrificing himself to save her. Severely wounded, Solari was rescued by allies and resuscitated by Dr. Kasuga.

Recovering aboard Ronet's evacuation convoy to Odessa, Solari chose to remain behind and join the Midnighters Squadron to repel Federation assaults. During the defense, she confronted the Gundam EX pilot, discovering he was the young boy encountered earlier. Attempting to reason with him, she pleaded for cessation of fighting since Federation victory was inevitable. Though they momentarily connected through their shared status as parents, the pilot was killed by Midnighters leader Loft.

Following Zeon's defeat, Solari joined remnant forces in Africa rather than evacuating to space. This decision reflected her commitment to fighting against the deployment of child soldiers in warfare, transformed by witnessing the Gundam EX pilot's death.
