Description
Kinusa Takamatsu is a 29-year-old professional keirin cyclist representing Takamatsu Velodrome. Standing 171 cm tall with ochre hair and blue eyes, her path to cycling began after a period of dissatisfaction. Following school, she secured a position at a prestigious company but found no fulfillment, leading her through career changes including office work and yoga instruction. Witnessing elite cyclists Tsutsuji Kurume and Remu Tachikawa—her same age—compete ignited her passion. Their determination inspired her to pursue keirin as a means to break her cycle of discontent and find genuine purpose.
Entering the cycling academy as the oldest trainee in the 14th generation, her maturity and life experience set her apart. She naturally adopted a nurturing role, providing stability and support. Her background as a yoga instructor allowed her to assist peers with flexibility and recovery, while her calm demeanor made her approachable. She formed a close bond with fellow trainee Ai Kumamoto, whose intense drive to rival Nana Hiratsuka resulted in dangerous overtraining. Kinusa actively tried to temper Ai's excessive efforts, even traveling to Kyushu during a break to monitor her. Despite Ai's promises to train responsibly, her physical breakdown and disqualification deeply affected Kinusa. She blamed herself for not intervening more effectively and shared Ai's distress upon her departure.
After graduating and turning professional, Kinusa initially struggled with inconsistent results and lacked clear competitive goals. During this period, she encountered Shoko Kannonji, an acquaintance from her hometown facing forced retirement due to poor performance. Shoko's desperate resolve to continue racing, risking further harm, reminded Kinusa of Ai's situation. Kinusa intervened, urging Shoko to find enjoyment in cycling over destructive obsession. She trained alongside Shoko, helping her temporarily improve her standings. Though Shoko ultimately failed to retain her position and retired, her courage in the final race profoundly impacted Kinusa, igniting a newfound competitive fire within her.
Motivated by this experience, Kinusa adopted a bold, front-running strategy in her final season race. This aggressive approach secured her first place, earning a spot in the prestigious Rookie Final. While she didn't achieve a podium position there, her spirited performance and unwavering determination garnered significant attention. Kinusa evolved from someone resigned to societal expectations into a resilient athlete who values passion, supports others facing adversity, and races with a clear sense of purpose and joy.
Her favorite locations include Takamatsu Port, and she enjoys udon noodles and wasanbon sweets.
