Description
Originally named Frederick Bulsara, Sol Badguy was a 20th-century scientist in Magic Physics. He worked on the Gear Project with friends Aria Hale and That Man. After stabilizing magic-infused Gear cells in 2015, military forces infiltrated their research. Learning Aria was terminally ill, Frederick convinced her to enter cryosleep. That Man then transformed Frederick into a Gear by implanting the Flame of Corruption, faking Frederick's death. Awakening later, Frederick confronted That Man, who denied their friendship and fled with Aria's capsule, leading Frederick to vow revenge.

Escaping the facility, Frederick created a "Rock You" headband to suppress his Gear cells and hide the red brand on his forehead. Around 2030, he became a bounty hunter, crushing underground organizations to find That Man; the underworld dubbed him "Badguy." After 2065, he focused on destroying all Gears. Slayer, intrigued by Frederick's survival despite being declared dead, named him "Sol" for his passion that "shone like the sun," resulting in the combined identity "Sol Badguy." During the Crusades (2074–2175), Sol briefly joined the Sacred Order of Holy Knights under Kliff Undersn. He clashed with commander Ky Kiske due to opposing personalities and Ky's reluctance to fight seriously. Sol later stole the Fireseal Sacred Treasure, deserted the Order, and aided in defeating Justice, ending the war.

Sol exhibits a sullen, brash, and anti-social demeanor, often speaking minimally and bullying others due to difficulty expressing himself. Despite his cynical exterior and self-proclaimed laziness, he displays deep compassion: sparing Gears like Dizzy and Testament, raising Ky and Dizzy's son Sin Kiske at their request, comforting Ramlethal Valentine, and swearing to save Elphelt Valentine. He harbors guilt over his role in the Gear Project, humanity's near extinction, Aria's death, and That Man's betrayal. This guilt initially led him to distance himself, focusing on eliminating Gears and exacting revenge. His relationships gradually softened his outlook, especially after taking Sin as his ward. By Revelator, Sol acknowledges the world's worth and his interconnectedness with others, no longer fearing isolation.

In Guilty Gear Strive, Sol confronts That Man (Asuka R. Kreutz). Asuka reveals his plan to remove the Flame of Corruption, allowing Sol to live normally as Frederick. After defeating the fused entity of Happy Chaos and I-No, Sol retires his bounty hunter identity, adopts his original name, and works on a rocket to visit Asuka on the moon. He lives with his lover, Jack-O'.

In Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers, Sol appears more at ease. He attends the wedding of Ky and Dizzy, thwarting an assassination attempt by Unika, a girl seeking to eradicate Gears. Protecting the frozen Ky and Dizzy, Sol mentors Sin during their pursuit of Unika, offering tactical guidance and restraint. He intervenes when Sin's latent Gear abilities activate dangerously, using a suppression device to prevent collateral damage. Sol remains embarrassed about his parental connection to Dizzy, avoiding discussions. His interactions show a protective yet hands-off mentorship style with Sin.

Sol's design features a red headband, tight black undershirt, red-and-black sleeveless jacket, white jeans with multiple belts, and fingerless gloves. Later depictions show long-sleeved red leather jackets with handcuffs strapped to the sleeves. His Awakened form appears as an unlockable boss in Guilty Gear Isuka.
