Description
Kanata Rivington, professionally known as Kanata Katagiri in MFG races, is a 19-year-old Japanese-British male born in Cambridge, England to a British mother and Japanese father. He uses his father's surname professionally, potentially to signal his presence in Japan while searching for his estranged father, whose whereabouts are unknown. After his mother's health deteriorated, he returned home to care for her, rejecting multiple racing sponsorships despite graduating with the highest recorded scores from the Royal Donington Park Racing School. Two years later, he traveled to Japan to find his father and currently lives with his parents' longtime friends, the Saionji family.

He possesses an eidetic (photographic) memory, a hereditary trait from his mother, enabling precise recall of visual details like kanji or race tracks after minimal exposure. Though fluent in spoken Japanese due to his mother's education, he struggles with reading and writing kanji and using chopsticks. He works part-time at a restaurant where his appearance and personality attract female customers.

His racing career began with karting at age 4. By 7, he competed in the British Kart Championships, winning six major titles over two years. At 10, he entered the F4 Championship, securing the title within two years. Trained under legendary downhill specialist and rally driver Takumi Fujiwara at the Royal Donington Racing School, Kanata adopted a driving style reminiscent of his mentor. He excels at setting competitive lap times on real tracks and simulations, earning sponsor recognition before graduation.

In MFG, he drives a progressively modified Lightning Red Toyota 86 (ZN6). As a rookie, he narrowly missed the "Godly 15" qualifying group by +0.019 seconds but entered the finals due to another driver's disqualification. He employs advanced techniques: the "Disappearing Line" (vanishing from opponents' view to exploit blind spots), "Gutter Run" (using road gutters to avoid understeer), "Wheel Lifting/Weight Shifting" (manipulating car balance during corners), and his self-invented "Sidewalk Run" (calculating sidewalk heights to overtake rivals on pedestrian pathways). His tactics include slipstream utilization, tire management, and real-time triangulation of opponents' positions using time differentials in low visibility.

His MFG goal is to locate his father while pushing his driving limits, explicitly avoiding pursuit of wealth or fame. He befriends fellow racer Shun Aiba and receives technical support from Ogata, owner of the Toyota 86. He is the love interest of Ren Saionji, who resides with him and fell for him "at first sight." A love triangle forms with Shun, who unknowingly admires Ren while Kanata remains initially unaware of her feelings. Post-series, he marries Ren, and they have two children twelve years later.

In MFG Year 4, he achieved: 9th in Round 1 (Odawara Pikes Peak), 4th in Round 2 (Lake Ashinoko GT), 2nd in Rounds 3 (Manazuru Peninsula) and 4 (Seaside Double Lane), and 1st in Round 5 (Atami Ghost). He earned ¥233,000,000 (approximately $1,535,167 USD) across all rounds, finishing 2nd overall with 38.5 points. His Toyota 86 is one of the few cars not switched mid-season among drivers competing in all five rounds.
