Description
Nene Kusanagi is a second-year student at Kamiyama High School. Her dream of becoming an international musical star began in elementary school after seeing *The Little Mermaid*. This passion led her to a junior high children's theater group, where she earned a lead role. However, during a key performance, she froze onstage, forgetting her lines. This incident shattered her confidence, causing persistent stage fright and a long avoidance of live performances.
Her childhood friend and neighbor, Rui Kamishiro, later recruited her into the Wonderlands x Showtime troupe at Phoenix Wonderland. Initially refusing to step onstage herself, Nene relied on "Robo-Nene," a robot Rui designed to perform for her. Supported by energetic troupe member Emu Otori and ambitious Tsukasa Tenma, Nene gradually confronted her anxiety. Rehearsing and performing with them helped her rediscover the joy of singing and acting, enabling her to eventually perform live without the robot.
Nene possesses a sharp tongue, especially around trusted individuals like Tsukasa, whom she frequently teases as a "self-proclaimed future star" or an "idiot." Despite this bluntness, she shows deep loyalty and concern for her friends. She worries about Rui, defends Emu from criticism, and reluctantly acknowledges Tsukasa's dedication. Introverted yet hardworking, Nene often practices late, striving to improve her acclaimed singing voice—which others recognize as exceptional but she personally doubts.
Outside the troupe, Nene shares a first-year classroom with Toya Aoyagi and a second-year classroom with An Shiraishi and Akito Shinonome. She bonds with Toya over gaming, calling him a "game friend." After Ichika Hoshino of Leo/need admires her voice during a joint Phoenix Wonderland event, Nene provides her singing lessons, forging a lasting friendship. In the *Picture Perfect!* event, Nene directs An and Akito in a film, earning praise for her guidance and their acting growth.
In *COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing*, Nene and Wonderlands x Showtime help resolve a crisis involving a despondent Hatsune Miku variant. The SEKAI dimension formed from her emotions collapses due to widespread despair. The troupe creates and performs "Smile*Symphony" to reignite hope in those connected to that SEKAI, aiding the restoration of the lost Miku variants and the concept of Hatsune Miku across the internet. This experience strengthens Nene's resolve to use performance to bring joy to others.
Her hobbies include playing fighting games, watching musicals and movies, and eating grapefruit. She dislikes crowded places and mint-flavored foods. Nene has long grayish-green hair tied with pink elastics, purple eyes, and stands 156 cm tall. Her Wonderlands x Showtime performance outfit features coattails with pom-poms, a butterfly-themed hairband, and pastel colors, designed to complement Robo-Nene.
