Description
May/Miyabi Arima straddles two existences: a grief-stricken mother drifting through reality and a steadfast virtual caretaker in the VR game PLANET. In the tangible world, she abandons her sons Taichirō and Asuma for stretches of time, wandering as a spectral figure clad in monochrome, her black hair and muted attire mirroring her emotional withdrawal. Fleeting returns see her mechanically tending to household duties before vanishing again, haunted by the loss of her daughter Aya.

Within PLANET, she reinvents herself as May, her avatar’s violet-spiked hair and white-and-purple minidress radiating calm. She cultivates gardens and communal meals in the Akabane Family’s virtual home, offering both healing spells and emotional stability during conflicts. Though she avoids direct combat, her magic bolsters allies’ prowess, a quiet strategist cloaked in serenity.

Reality fractures her fragile equilibrium. Hallucinations of Aya fray her grasp on the present, and her eventual return home fails to mend the family’s fissures. A discarded VR visor, salvaged after Taichirō hurls it away, becomes a silent testament to her tenuous bond with her sons. Post-crisis, she inhabits liminal spaces—visiting without staying, planning a pilgrimage to a site steeped in familial memory yet hesitating to bridge the gap entirely. Repressed trauma lingers beneath her tentative steps toward reconciliation, leaving her future as unresolved as the distorted recollections clouding her past.
