Description
Kūkō Harai, leader of the rap group Bad Ass Temple representing the Nagoya Division, operates under the MC alias "Evil Monk." Heir and apprentice monk at Kugen Temple, he trains under his father Shakku for future monastic duties. Despite this spiritual path, Kūkō exhibits rough, lawless conduct and a violent streak, frequently violating temple regulations. A powerful personal sense of justice fuels his actions, though he consistently employs physical confrontations and delinquent methods. At age 14, he mastered an ascetic lifestyle his father could not attain, yet his foul language and rebellious attitude starkly contrast his monastic role. He lives by an unwavering principle: never betray friends, holding loyalty supreme.
Prior to leading Bad Ass Temple, Kūkō co-founded the group Naughty Busters with Ichiro Yamada in Ikebukuro. Their partnership shattered when a clone of Ramuda Amemura, wielding a True Hypnosis Mic, brainwashed Kūkō into turning against Ichiro. This event dissolved Naughty Busters and drove Kūkō from Ikebukuro. Later, after defeating a group of Nagoya thugs in combat, he briefly assumed their leadership, redirecting them toward community service. This period showcased his innate leadership capacity alongside his recognition of personal shortcomings in guiding others.
Forming Bad Ass Temple with visual kei musician Jyushi Aimono and lawyer Hitoya Amaguni catalyzed significant evolution in Kūkō's character. While initially driven by a desire to surpass his father, his focus shifted towards nurturing his team's development and safeguarding his community. He adopts a leadership style blending playfulness with seriousness, mentoring Jyushi through harsh training—including exposure to Hypnosis Mic attacks—to fortify his spirit. Kūkō forges a familial bond with his teammates, declaring them chosen family and emphasizing mutual growth, reflecting his acknowledgment of past leadership deficiencies and commitment to becoming a reliable figure.
Physically, Kūkō possesses short spiky hair, golden eyes with catlike pupils, sharp canines, and numerous ear piercings. His signature attire combines a sleeveless black kimono, harem pants, and an oversized bomber jacket often featuring embroidered shachihoko (mythical carp) or mandala motifs, frequently accented by a lightning symbol representing Bad Ass Temple. Accessories include prayer beads, multiple rings, and black-painted nails. His Hypnosis Mic resembles a khakkhara (Buddhist staff) with a dragon-coiled bell speaker, drawing from Buddhist folklore.
His rap ability, "Meditation," nullifies opponents' powers by sealing their Hypnosis Mics. His lyrics weave in Buddhist themes, like references to the 108 worldly desires. Kūkō dislikes jazz music and ocean environments but enjoys shōnen manga, punk rock, mountain climbing, green tea, and cola. Unconventionally for a monk, he performs community outreach by sneaking out to entertain children with drawings and assisting elders. He lives by the personal quote: "Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes," attributed to Mahatma Gandhi.
