Description
Choi Jong-In commands the Hunters Guild as one of South Korea's mightiest S-Rank hunters. His early life featured unexplained fire-related accidents later revealed as manifestations of latent fire magic. This power fully awakened during a near-fatal C-Rank Gate encounter with Giant Golems. Weaponless and cornered, he channeled magic through a cigarette to trigger an explosive detonation, annihilating the threat and launching his hunter career. Exaggerated retellings of this event earned him the moniker "Ultimate Hunter."

Physically tall and lanky, he sports distinctive crimson hair styled in a curtain cut parted over his left eye. He favors striped business suits and is seldom without a cigarette. On raids, he dons opulent bronze or goldish-white armor, a flowing red cape, and multiple rings. His eyes blaze with magenta light during power use. Post-timeline revision, he retains his youthful appearance but swaps his suit for full black while keeping the signature cape.

Calm and observant, Choi Jong-In maintains a sly yet approachable demeanor, rarely showing distress under pressure. A chain smoker, he frequently steps outside to indulge. He values teamwork over individual prowess—a strategic insight pivotal to elevating the Hunters Guild to Korea's premier guild. After the timeline shift, he displays heightened concern for civilian safety but keeps core traits like vocalizing observations, such as questioning Suho's anonymity after rescues.

As Korea's supreme fire mage, his magic obliterates buildings and incinerates packs of high-tier beasts. Techniques include projectile Flame Spears, confining Flame Prisons capable of restraining B-Rank beasts, close-range Flame Dragons, flame bows and arrows, and ground detonations. Despite his mage role, he possesses exceptional durability, surviving the Ant King's chest strike while staying mobile, and boasts reflexes fast enough to evade light-speed attacks. His vast mana reserves sustain prolonged high-output battles, surpassed only by entities like Jinwoo with the Black Heart, the late Min Byung-Gyu, or National Level Hunters. He innately resists fire and extreme heat. In the revised timeline, he contracts a fire elemental appearing as a blue flaming bird.

Initially perceived as potentially villainous due to sharp features, intense eyes, and destructive magic, Choi Jong-In briefly rivaled Sung Jinwoo before acknowledging his superiority. After Jinwoo saved him during Jeju Island's fourth raid, he shifted to a supportive role, joining missions like the Double Dungeon to repay his debt without jealousy. Following the Cup of Reincarnation's timeline reset, he never founded the Hunters Guild but was recruited early by Woo Jinchul. His duties expanded to include civilian protection during Gate emergencies, reflecting increased concern for non-combatants. Across both timelines, he remains dedicated to thwarting magical threats and bolstering South Korea's hunter infrastructure.
