Description
A recurring antagonist in the Lupin III franchise, Stoneman appears in both the original series and later anniversary productions. He is a highly skilled marksman who challenges other sharpshooters to duels to bolster his reputation. Stoneman maintains a characteristically cold, expressionless demeanor, with rare exceptions like smiling when accepting coins from Lupin. His habits include sitting alone in bars nursing scotch while crunching celery sticks. During confrontations, he demonstrates agility, darting between rocks while crouched to maintain target focus. He employs tactical preparation by concealing spare ammunition under his jacket on his shoulders and left arm to ensure sufficient rounds.

Five years before Lupin the Third Part 2 episode 99, Stoneman agreed to duel Jigen at 3:00 PM. When Jigen arrived three hours late due to a broken-down vehicle, Stoneman interpreted this as disrespect, crossed Jigen off his list, and departed angrily. During this period, Stoneman evolved from a relative newcomer to a marksman matching Jigen's skill. He later intervened to save Lupin and Jigen from a sewer crocodile attack, though his sole interest remained confronting Jigen. He demanded their duel be rescheduled for two days later, dismissing Goemon's challenge by calling him a "kid."

In the subsequent duel, Lupin sabotaged Jigen by replacing his magnum with a rock. Stoneman exploited this advantage, shooting Jigen's hat multiple times and disabling his gun barrel to prevent escape. After nearly an hour of Jigen repairing his weapon with Lupin's aid, both shooters fired simultaneously. Stoneman shot off Jigen's hat while Jigen's bullet struck Stoneman, sending him over a cliff. Though appearing deceased, Stoneman later reappeared unharmed in the 2018 OVA *Is Lupin Still Burning?* due to time-travel interference.

Within that OVA's altered timeline, antagonists Kyosuke Mamo and Mister X manipulated events to prevent Lupin's core team formation. They ensured Jigen arrived punctually for his historical duel with Stoneman. In this revised confrontation, Stoneman shot Jigen in the arm, causing permanent paralysis that reduced Jigen to panhandling. This injury directly contributed to an alternate future scattering Lupin's allies: Jigen disabled, Goemon a mercenary assassin partnered with Fujiko, and Zenigata pursuing Goemon instead of Lupin.

Stoneman's role across media establishes him as a pivotal figure whose marksmanship directly influences key character trajectories, particularly through his longstanding rivalry with Jigen and the timeline-altering consequences of their duels.
