Anna, the adopted daughter of Bishop Bart Bagley, serves as a novice priestess at Whitesails' temple, assisting in religious ceremonies under his guidance. The temple emphasizes formal rituals over informal services, deeming the latter too exhausting. She develops a relationship with Reystov, a seasoned adventurer and warrior. Their marriage encounters resistance from Bishop Bagley, who opposes the union due to Reystov's status as a common sellsword and its potential to damage his standing among nobles. To reconcile this, William and allies arrange a bridenapping scheme, enabling Anna to "elope" with Reystov while safeguarding the bishop's political image. Afterward, Bishop Bagley formally approves the marriage, citing no alternative following the orchestrated events. Anna subsequently retires from her temple duties and settles into domestic life with Reystov, shifting focus from religious service to home-centered stability.
