Description
Giant Panda appears as a friendly, anthropomorphized Friend residing in Japari Park. Her demeanor is helpful, yet she exhibits frequent laziness marked by slow speech and a tendency to doze off without warning in any situation, including mid-conversation or even during combat. This extensive sleeping occupies roughly 38% of her screen time. Despite chronic drowsiness, she possesses fiercely protective instincts, becoming formidable when angered, especially if something or someone she cares about is endangered. In these enraged states, she can single-handedly defeat entire groups of the hostile Celliens, though she invariably collapses back into sleep immediately after such exertions.
Significant narrative involvement occurs primarily in the second season. In "Panda and Panda," she attempts to give directions to Serval, Caracal, and Kyururu to a playground but falls asleep mid-explanation. Awakening later, she reunites with the group and shares an emotional moment, including a hug, with Red Panda, reassuring her about the directions. When Celliens later attack the playground, her anger triggers a powerful response, allowing her to obliterate the attackers alone before succumbing to fatigue and sleeping on the spot. Before the protagonists depart, she and Red Panda relay information about another group searching for a human, hinting their paths might cross. In "The Ocean's Mood," she falls asleep on Red Panda during a tractor ride. Later, asleep in a chair surrounded by a Cellien horde, she awakens briefly to eliminate the entire threat almost instantly before returning to sleep, preempting Western Lowland Gorilla's intervention. During "I'm Home," Western Lowland Gorilla carries her while asleep during combat against Celliens. She awakens on the beach after a hotel collapse, remarking she slept well.
Her relationship with Red Panda is a consistent aspect. Red Panda actively safeguards her due to her sleeping habits, brightens visibly when she is awake, and enjoys playing with her. Red Panda also warns other Friends against waking Giant Panda to avoid potential anger. Their interactions include physical closeness, like Giant Panda sleeping on Red Panda during travel, and displays of mutual affection, including emotional gratitude from Red Panda for being protected.
Visually, she sports stark white hair with two prominent round ears. Her bangs feature two round, dot-like streaks resembling panda eye markings, complemented by dark blue real eyes and adjacent hair tufts. Her attire resembles a Japanese school uniform top over long black gloves, paired with a short black skirt, black stockings, and small black sneakers with white bow laces. She is frequently depicted holding a bamboo shoot. A noted design error colors her tail black instead of the typical panda coloration.
A minor cameo occurs in the first season's eighth episode, "PPP Live," where she is part of the audience during a PPP performance. She debuted earlier in the 2015 Kemono Friends mobile game, though specific details regarding her role or characterization within that game are not elaborated in the available information.
Trivia notes reference real-world panda behavior, indicating her affinity for playing on a tire swing aligns with observed panda activities in zoos.
