Description
The character known as "Nono" serves as an alternate name for the Snork Maiden specifically within the 1969 Japanese anime adaptation. The series director personally rebranded the character "Nonnon," drawing the name from his wife's pet. This deliberate renaming marked a significant departure from the original Moomin stories, where the character consistently appears solely as the Snork Maiden, lacking a personal name.

Tove Jansson, creator of the Moomin series, voiced strong disapproval of this name change. She found "Nonnon" problematic, noting that "non" could translate to "no" in certain contexts, a meaning she felt contradicted her vision for the character. Responding to Jansson's objections, subsequent adaptations revised the name. For instance, the "Delightful Moomin Family" series adopted "Frolen" (a variation of the German "Fräulein," meaning "young lady") to better reflect the original works.

This 1969 anime featured episodes like "Nonnon Who Comes Back" and "Nonnon Is in Danger," showcasing the character under this name within that specific series. The "Nonnon" naming convention and its associated character interpretation remain exclusive to the 1969 anime adaptation and are absent from other official Moomin media, including the original books, comic strips, the 1990s series, and the 2019 "Moominvalley."
