Description
Nono begins unaware of her artificial nature in a rural Martian village, distinguished by pink hair, blue eyes, a braid, and a prominent ahoge. She wears a practical space uniform, later adding a muffler gifted by Lal'C. Driven by an earnest dream to emulate her idol "Nonoriri" (Noriko Takaya), she pursues space piloting with persistent optimism and notable clumsiness, often invoking "hard work and guts." Her resolve persists even after facing harassment in a menial cafe job, where she meets and immediately idolizes the Topless pilot Lal'C Mellk Mal, addressing her as "Onee-sama." This admiration fuels Nono's desire to join the elite Fraternity defending humanity.

Her non-human identity surfaces when she unconsciously performs the "Inazuma Kick" during a space monster attack, displaying extraordinary abilities without a Buster Machine. Medical exams confirm her robotic physiology, including superhuman strength and resilience, though her origins remain unclear and she initially lacks conscious control. As threats escalate, Nono's full capabilities awaken: she is revealed as the "Terran Imperial Space Fleet Solar System Assistance Battalion Attache Sixth Generation Interstellar Cruising Decisive Weapon, Buster Machine No. 7," designed to command the Buster Legion (autonomous units disguised as space monsters) via her ahoge antenna. Her "degeneracy generator" enables FTL travel, reality-warping, energy projection, gravity manipulation, and planetary-scale destruction.

Nono's relationship with Lal'C evolves into mutual reliance. Her unwavering belief in Lal'C's heroism helps Lal'C overcome cynicism. Their bond culminates in a synchronized "Double Inazuma Kick" defeating the final space monster, but creates a destabilizing black hole. To save Earth, Nono sacrifices herself by merging with the Buster Legion to warp the singularity away, transcending physical form. Before departing, she gives Lal'C an origami crane symbolizing her singularity reactor—a direct homage to Kazumi Amano's motif.

Ten years later, Lal'C witnesses Noriko and Kazumi's return and vows to honor Nono's legacy. Nono's design and actions contain intentional parallels to *Gunbuster*, including her misinterpretation of Noriko's name, her replication of Noriko's uniform-ripping gesture, and her embodiment of the series' core themes. Her character arc resolves as a direct prelude to the original series' conclusion, bridging the narratives.
