This ostracization persists despite her genuine medical knowledge and attempts to aid the community, such as treating ill village children, only to be rejected.

Her past includes a close friendship with Lilias Craven before Lilias's death. Following Lilias's fatal garden accident, villagers wrongfully blame Camilla for the tragedy, intensifying their hostility.
