Ekubo, self-titled Dimple, is an upper-class evil spirit devoid of memories from his human life, recalling only his spiritual existence beginning in a cemetery. He initially led a spirit gang until a near-fatal clash with the powerful Mogami. Decades later, he established the (LOL) Cult, utilizing hypnotic smile masks to compel laughter and gather worship, aiming for godhood. This scheme failed when Shigeo Kageyama, immune to the masks' hypnosis, confronted and exorcised him. Following this, Ekubo reformed and proposed collaborating with Shigeo towards divinity, secretly intending eventual possession. Shigeo permitted Ekubo to stay under supervision after securing a promise of good behavior. His typical manifestation is a wispy smoke cloud bearing a detailed human-like face with prominent lips, a nose, and distinctive red cheek circles. He occasionally forms arms or legs, but his core facial features persist even in minimal form. Ekubo wields powers including human possession (resistible by strong psychics), mass hypnosis, energy projection like the "Wraither Beam," and amplifying the physical or psychic potential of possessed hosts. He possesses extensive knowledge of psychic phenomena, spirit behavior, and esper power dynamics. Initially driven by self-interest, Ekubo sought to exploit Shigeo's power for his divine goals. He assisted Shigeo and others primarily to further his own ends, such as defending Shigeo from Teruki Hanazawa or possessing Banshomaru Shinra to fight spirits like The Dragger. His motives gradually shifted. During the Mogami arc, he risked himself to protect Shigeo, possessing his body to block Mogami's theft attempt and later entering Mogami's mental world to rescue Shigeo from psychological torment. He displayed genuine concern in crises, searching Shigeo's burning house for threats and shielding him from traumatic sights. Perceptive and analytically sharp, Ekubo quickly identifies psychological traits in others, like Teruki's superiority complex or Ritsu Kageyama's inferiority complex towards Shigeo. He often provides comic relief alongside pragmatic advice, cautioning Shigeo against misunderstandings like fake love letters or misplaced confidence. Over time, he grew to admire Shigeo's humility and resolve, particularly witnessing his integrity during conflicts like Musashi Gouda's possession, where Shigeo rejected psychic shortcuts. In the Divine Tree arc, Ekubo temporarily achieved godhood by merging with a colossal tree, intending to impose global happiness through forced enlightenment. Confronted by Shigeo, he admitted his underlying desire was personal fulfillment, not altruism. He sacrificed his godly form to shield Shigeo from an orbital laser, acknowledging Shigeo's strength of character as truly "amazing." Ekubo remained a fixture in Shigeo's life, observing daily interactions and occasionally collaborating with allies like Arataka Reigen, while maintaining his irreverent demeanor. His journey reflects a transition from opportunistic spirit to an ally who values Shigeo's ideals, despite retaining his self-serving wit.
