Ran Mouri, daughter of private detective Kogoro Mouri and lawyer Eri Kisaki, experienced her parents' separation at age seven, fueling a persistent desire to reunite them. She first met Shinichi Kudo in kindergarten when he requested her handmade sakura badge, marking the start of their enduring bond. Together during elementary school, they investigated urban legends like the hat-wearing monster at Teitan Elementary, encountering a figure who provided a coded message. Karate captured her interest at ten after seeing national champion Satoru Maeda. By sixteen, she led Teitan High School's karate club as captain and secured regional tournament victories. Roughly a year before Shinichi's transformation, she accompanied him to New York. There, Shuichi Akai warned her of a serial killer; later, she saved Vermouth (disguised as the killer) from a fatal fall. This act earned Ran the moniker "Angel" from Vermouth and crystallized her romantic feelings for Shinichi. Ran demonstrates a complex personality: patient, nurturing, and deeply valuing justice, yet possessing a hot-blooded temper when defending loved ones, readily using karate if provoked. Despite her combat prowess, she harbors an intense fear of the supernatural and actively avoids horror-related content. Self-sufficiency defines her daily life, managing household finances, cooking, and cleaning due to her father's habitual irresponsibility. Largely oblivious to others' romantic interest, she remains devoted to Shinichi, though struggles to voice her feelings directly. Key events in "Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small" further shaped her story. At the aquarium, Shinichi accidentally caused her to drop her phone, leading him to promise a replacement and a Tropical Land trip if she won the karate championship. During the tournament finals against Hina Wada, Shinichi's abrupt departure for a case fueled Ran's anger and subsequent victory. Earlier, at the Suzuki residence, she prevented Takanori Sewa's wheelchair mishap, showcasing sharp reflexes and composure. The episode culminates at Tropical Land, where Shinichi vanished after investigating suspicious men. Physically, Ran stands approximately 160–165 cm tall with a slender, athletic build. She possesses dark brown hip-length hair, bluish-purple eyes, fair skin, and bangs featuring a distinct triangular point. Beyond karate, she excels in judo, household management, and displays uncanny luck in games of chance. Strong memory recall and situational awareness are also notable traits. Following Shinichi's disappearance, she took in Conan Edogawa (Shinichi's alias) at Professor Agasa's request, viewing him as a surrogate younger brother. She has intermittently suspected Conan's true identity but accepted plausible alibis.
