Her exceptional combat skills and strategic prowess led her to command the specialized ninja group, the Akechi Ten. She demonstrated formidable ability by swiftly amputating the arm of the extensively trained Jutaro Yuki, subverting expectations of feminine fragility through lethal efficiency.

Originally a noblewoman, the loss of her castle redefined Hotarubi. Ninjutsu became her essence. Confronting Kagemaru's band, the Kage-ichizoku, she declared that a ninja "lives by her jutsu," asserting her techniques could ensure her legacy endured even in death. She manipulated societal perceptions of female weakness to gain tactical advantages during missions.

A pivotal ambush saw Hotarubi murder Jutaro's lover, Akemi, personally stabbing her in the abdomen and resulting in dismemberment. Standing over the mutilated corpse, Hotarubi wept, seeming to recognize a reflection of her own mortality and existence's fragility without her ninja arts. This act fueled Jutaro's vengeance while underscoring her internal conflict.

Her final confrontation pitted her against the Kage-ichizoku. Outnumbered and facing defeat, she concealed packets of potent poison on her body. Killed and dismembered in battle, her corpse fell into the river serving as the primary water source for Kagemaru's allies. Consumed in a stew, the poison caused the mass death of the Kage-ichizoku. This posthumous counterattack achieved victory through sacrifice, embodying her belief that jutsu transcends death.

Throughout her story, Hotarubi grappled with power and vulnerability. Her ruthless actions stemmed from understanding that wielding influence subjects one to it. Turning her own demise into a weapon resolved this paradox, overcoming her enemies while accepting her end.
