Description
Origami Tobiichi is a 16-year-old student at Raizen High School, later aging to 17 and 18. She sports short silver-white hair in a bob cut secured with three hair clips and blue eyes that shift to light blue and white upon becoming a Spirit, standing 152 cm tall with measurements B75/W55/H79. Academically and athletically gifted, she maintains top student status while secretly serving as a Master Sergeant in the Anti-Spirit Team, piloting advanced CR-Units like Ashcroft I Alice and Mordred. Initially unsocial, blunt, and emotionally reserved, she speaks minimally except to Shido Itsuka or Tohka Yatogami. This stems from childhood trauma witnessing her parents die five years prior in a fire; she saw an "angel" fire the lethal light beam, forging an obsessive vendetta against all Spirits.
After her parents' death, Origami entrusted her emotions to Shido, who comforted her then. She moved in with an aunt, a former AST member, and joined the AST seeking power for revenge. Her exceptional combat prowess allows her to wield the dangerous CR-Unit White Licorice and land hits on elite adversaries like Ellen. Confronting Spirits triggers reckless aggression, such as nearly killing Kotori Itsuka despite knowing her relationship to Shido. Her fixation escalates, leading her to defect to DEM Industries for greater power following AST disciplinary actions. This quest drives her to accept a Sephira Crystal from Phantom, transforming her into an AAA-class Spirit. Disgusted by becoming what she hated, she resolves to exterminate other Spirits before ending her own life. Facing Shido directly during her first battle as a Spirit causes her to flee.
A catastrophic revelation reshapes Origami's backstory. Learning Phantom created Kotori, she deduces Phantom caused her parents' death. Using Kurumi Tokisaki's twelfth bullet, she time-travels to intercept Phantom but inadvertently fires the beam that kills her parents. Discovering she caused their deaths plunges her into despair, triggering an irreversible inverse transformation into an emotionless SS-class Spirit "Devil" that attacks indiscriminately. To rectify this, Shido and Kurumi travel to the past, saving her parents by diverting her attack. This creates a new timeline where Origami never experienced trauma: she retains waist-length hair, exhibits a cheerful demeanor, and questions AST's anti-Spirit mandate. However, memories and Spirit powers from the original timeline persist, causing internal conflict. The original timeline's catatonic Origami surfaces during stress, manifesting stalker-like behaviors toward Shido or inverse transformations when sensing Spirit energy. Witnessing Efreet's flames during a date with Shido triggers this inversion, sparking a physical clash between her dual selves.
After Shido seals her Spirit powers, the two timelines' personalities merge. The dominant personality derives from the original timeline, retaining her memories but relinquishing her grudge against Spirits. She acknowledges her past dependence on Shido was not love, recognizing the new timeline's genuine affection reshapes her motivations. Though still competitively pursuing Shido against rivals like Tohka, she exhibits heightened self-awareness, worrying about his perception of her actions. Internally, her psyche debates actions through angel and devil figments: the angel represents her original timeline's desires, while the devil embodies the new timeline's reason. A year after Spirits vanish, she displays increased cheerfulness, including laughter and humor. Her story spans light novels, anime adaptations, and spin-offs like Date A Origami and Date AST Like, navigating university life and relationships, such as with Mikie Okamine.
