Though the assailants flee, they plant a bomb that detonates the next day, obliterating the village. Mifa and her aunt narrowly survive by sheltering underground, though the trauma of witnessing their home’s annihilation leaves Mifa shattered.

Returning to the ruins, the Sanzo Party discovers a grief-stricken Mifa collapsing amid the debris. They offer safe passage to her relatives near a mountain, but their journey is interrupted by Ensui, the deranged scientist behind the bombing.
