Description
Tamae Okamine is the homeroom teacher for Class 2-4 at Raizen High School, instructing students including Shido Itsuka. Though 29 years old, her youthful appearance—petite stature (150 cm tall), light brown hair, brown eyes, and thin-rimmed glasses—frequently causes students to mistake her for much younger. This leads to the affectionate nickname "Tama-chan" but hinders her ability to command authority due to her childlike demeanor.
Her defining trait is an intense desperation to marry before turning 30, making her hypersensitive to words like "proposal" or "marriage." This anxiety manifests comically; she once lamented her single status by wishing spitefully for a meteor to strike Japan, an event which ironically occurs shortly afterward on school grounds. Shido Itsuka's attempt to flirt with her during Ratatoskr training triggered an overeager reaction that forced him to flee, illustrating her tendency for emotional outbursts.
She regularly interacts with Spirits and major events: introducing new students like Tohka Yatogami and Kurumi Tokisaki to the class, overseeing Spacequake drills, and chaperoning the school trip to Arubi Island. Her naivety and lack of situational awareness often land her in absurd situations. During the school trip, she accidentally walked in on a naked Shido, causing mutual embarrassment. Later, Natsumi Kyouno repeatedly targeted her; Natsumi impersonated Shido to harass her, leading Tamae to reject the real Shido. In the "Natsumi Change" arc, Natsumi used her Angel <Haniel> to strip Tamae of her clothes in front of Shido and later absorbed her into the Angel's dimensional space. Tamae was freed only after Natsumi's true identity was exposed.
Her character development culminates in a relationship with former AST captain Kyouhei Kannazuki, whom she fell for at first sight during Ratatoskr activities. They eventually become engaged. By her students' graduation, she proudly announces her impending marriage, showcasing a shift from her earlier despair.
Tamae appears across light novel volumes (1–3, 5, 8–12, 14, 18–19, 21) and Encore short stories, plus all anime seasons and spin-offs. Her role remains a comedic supporting figure, with her engagement marking her sole significant personal growth.
