Description
Taiga Hirano is a second-year high school student and classmate of Shuumei Sasaki, serving on the school's disciplinary committee alongside first-year Yoshikazu Miyano. This creates a senpai-kouhai dynamic between them. While enforcing school rules, Hirano breaks them with his distinctive blonde hair, a visual contrast to his blue eyes. He lives in the school dormitories with his younger roommate, Akira Kagiura.

Hirano presents a rough exterior marked by blunt speech, often perceived as intimidating. This contrasts sharply with his deeply caring, protective, and nurturing nature, particularly evident within his close friend group and his interactions with Kagiura. He possesses a strong sense of justice. He actively supports Kagiura, waking him daily for basketball practice, helping him study, and frequently joining him for meals. Around Kagiura, his demeanor becomes notably more open and cheerful.

Academically diligent, Hirano achieves good grades and tutors Sasaki. Sasaki acknowledges his own relatively good academic standing is largely due to Hirano's persistent help, despite sometimes finding the tutoring unwelcome. Hirano is also physically strong and skilled in fighting, using these abilities to protect his friends.

Within the main story involving Sasaki and Miyano, Hirano acts as a mediator and facilitator for their relationship. He consciously creates opportunities for them to spend time together and helps them navigate early awkwardness, such as their prolonged failure to exchange contact information. Sasaki frequently seeks Hirano's advice about Miyano, and Hirano proactively offers guidance.

Hirano becomes the central character in the spin-off "Hirano and Kagiura," which explores his daily routines and deepening bond with his younger roommate, Kagiura. Over time, Kagiura develops romantic feelings for Hirano. Kagiura confesses twice—once while Hirano slept and again while he was awake. Hirano responded that he is not gay and cannot return Kagiura's feelings. Despite this rejection, Hirano strives to maintain their living arrangement and dynamic as normal, continuing his supportive role. This unchanged kindness and proximity complicate Kagiura's ability to move on emotionally.

Hirano experiences subtle personal development, moving from initial unawareness of Kagiura's feelings to confronting the reality of the confession. His insistence on preserving their status quo indicates a struggle to process the shift in their relationship while attempting to maintain their connection. His protective instincts and inherent kindness remain consistent drivers of his actions.
